Try this, Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog), by Jerome K. Jerome.  Originally published in 1889 and hasn't been out of print since, though it's now out of copyright and therefore available on Project Gutenberg.  https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/308.  A very funny book.

Just downloaded it to my e-reader. I'm between books, so I'll give it a shot.

You're welcome.  I first ran into Three Men in a Boat when I bought To Say Nothing of the Dog, by Connie Willis, which is an homage to Three Men in a Boat.  It's also
  1. a time travel story
  2. a comedy of manners
  3. a great mystery
  4. a romance
  5. and cats play a prominent role in it.
If you find yourself looking for a good book that isn't free, you could do worse than To Say Nothing of the Dog.  I suggest Abe Books for a used copy.  Connie's books never seem to go on sale on BookBub.

I'm going to download it, too. Thanks!

Currently on my iPad....a few cozy mysteries ebooks from the library:

Til Death Do Us Part - Amanda Quick (aka Jayne Krantz)

Quicksilver - Amanda Quick (I think I read this one, but am not sure)

I'll Never Let You Go - Mary Burton (I think I read this one, too)

Scone Cold Dead - Kaitlyn Dunnett

On my Nook from the Kindle app:

The Legend of Devil's Creek - D.C. Alexander

I have a BLU R1HD smartphone I bought from Amazon, and it automatically syncs with my Kindle. I always have something to read.

See a book you like and free or pay, it is in your reader almost instantly.

If Amazon doesn't have the book, I switch to the Nook HD+ and shop B&N.

I didn't realize we could borrow ebooks from the library!! I just emailed the library asking them to send me my number as I lost my card.

I am still working on that doggie book. I am also gonna read that link you gals gave yesterday. I gave up on 1984-I don't like the typeset=going to see if I can get it from the library=it was annoying reading on the desk top. but I will try again later.

Now if we could get Tallyp to get her Magic Egg book published on Amazon! I bet lots of people will want to read it!!!

just started a cat called alfie on amazon cloud--I LOVE IT! already 2 chapters into it!

I really want to re-read "The Man Who Talks to Horses."  I can't remember who wrote it, but it is about Monty Roberts, the man who manages to train a horse with never a harsh word or a buck.  IF I ever had millions and millions of dollars to build and operate the kind of no-kill animal shelter that I would want to have, I would want someone trained by him to work with remedial horses.

Something very strange has been going on with BookBub, Early Bird Books, and Bargain Booksy for the last week or so.  First, their links to Amazon and Barnes & Noble stopped working.  The next day, most of the Amazon links started up again (though Bargain Booksy is still having trouble), but the Barnes & Noble links are still out.  The books are there, at the prices stated, but to get to them you have to go to barnesandnoble.com and search for them.

So, sometimes it's easier to search for the author rather than the title, and this has led to an interesting discovery.  When I get to the author's page I tell it to sort by price, low to high, and I've found several free books this way that weren't on BookBub et. al..  Mary Roberts Rinehart, for instance, has something like 3 or 4 pages of free books.  Now, a lot of them are duplicates; apparently someone scanned multiple editions of her out-of-copyright books, but even filtering out the duplicates I just ended up with 28 of her books, for free.  And it's not just the dead authors; some of the newer ones have a couple of free books that they're giving away to draw readers in, so it's always worth checking out the author's page to see what's available.

I just had a feeling I should mention this here.

I recently discovered the Joanne Fluke "Hannah Swensen" mysteries.  Hanna owns a bakery and the books are chock full of recipes for cookies that are actually well within my limited capability!  I have three of them, and will be collecting these!   Also, the Joe Gray mysteries, about a cat named...you guess it...Joe Gray.  A new favorite website is Cozy Mysteries with its lists of authors, types, etc.  There are TONS of cat mystery serieseseseseses ~slaps self in face~ that I want to explore, including one about a female parolee and the ghost cat from her prison.  That might be interesting!

I started reading Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog), by Jerome K. Jerome and am about 2/3 through it.  However, the 1984 e-book became available at the library so I have switched over to that.

Reading another cooking mystery, "Tough Cookie," by Diane Mott Davidson.  It's pretty good, but won't go onto my collectible list, I don't think.  There are, however, several recipes that I will copy and keep!

She, Goldy Schulz, is a caterer and private chef who is married to a police detective.  Actually, the series looks very good, but I currently have over 500 books on my "to buy" list, and am trying to restrain myself!  I've become addicted to cat mysteries just now.  SIGH...I may have to...but NO...I CAN'T...or can I...

I really need to win that PCH grand prize!

Gosh, I wish we lived closer; I have all the DMD/Goldy books in the series, except for Whole Enchilada, and you'd be more than welcome to borrow them to read. I've tried some of the recipes and they're not bad. I have a lot of the Joanne Fluke series, too; some of the cookie recipes are pretty good. She also has a cookbook out; I borrowed it from the library one time, but didn't buy it. I think it's called The Lake Eden Cookbook and it has "Hannah's" cookie recipes.

I've read some of the Joe Gray books; I didn't buy any.

Ebooks from the library on my iPad:

Manhattan Lockdown - Paul Bastista

Diabolical - Jana DeLeon

Bad Moon Rising - Jonathon Maberry (I think I read this one, but am not sure; it's along the lines of Stephen King, but said to be worse)

The Romanov Cross - Robert Masello

I just finished and returned Free Fall (Book 6 from the Sisterhood Series) by Fern Michaels. I'm not a particularly big Michaels fan, but I do like this series. It's pretty good.

On my Nook (using the Kindle App), I'm reading New Orleans Mourning (part of the Skip Langdon series) by Julie Smith. I've just started it and, at this point, it's ok. But just ok.

I don't go anywhere anymore without both my iPad and my Nook. I read from both of them.
