I just got approved for LIEAP!  That, for those who don't know, is the Low Income Energy Assistance Program.  It will credit my electric bill with a modest sum to offset the cost of heating!  This will free up a few dollars in the budget for some much-needed purchases, and should pretty much cover my electric for 3-4 months...I'm VERY careful with power!  Keep my heat at 68 d).egrees, my AC at 76 degrees, only turn my water heater on for about an hour a day and use LED light bulbs (although I'm still buying those).  This is SUCH good news for me!

That's wonderful news.  Has Ms. Hekitty already put her paw out for her share?
Seriously, I am very glad for you.   Even a few dollars a month can make such a huge difference.

That's great!! Every bit helps!

Don't tell Hekitty. She will expect you to spend it on more treats for her.

Same here. Hekitty deserves her share. She is the queen.

Lilith is now addicted to Pure Bites duck treats. I added them to my Petco repeat delivery because I had some PALS rewards so they ended up being free. She went crazy for them so I added them to my Amazon subscribe and save order. She's like a little snapping turtle for those things.

Well I spoke too soon after ranting
So I got an email about a department town hall meeting in 2 weeks. No big deal. Later my supervisor actually comes by (we hardly see her since she has to manage the other facility because the two of us are barely getting by with the old facility) with a BIG smile on her face. Apparently she heard what the town hall will be about and there is good news for us. She couldn't give us details but she says things will get better over the next few months. I asked if we would be able to get more staff and she said most likely yes and would like at least 2 more people.

I make a move to find a new job and now everything with the current job is suppsedly going to improve
I'll still apply for the other position just so the hiring manager can have it on file. Who knows if the position will even be offered to me.  There are external candidates for the position and someone may have a better set of skills and experience and is more likable and social than I am.

It's always good to have options.  Applying for the position doesn't mean you have to take it.  It just means you have more choices.  Never a bad thing.

Well, that big storm they've been predicting is supposed to hit at 9am.  They say it will last through Sunday or Monday.  We have sandwich stuff and other things we can eat without having to cook.  I'm mostly concerned about the heat situation.  This is supposed to be worse than the big storm we had back in '93 and everyone lost power for over a week then.  This is quite possibly the only time I'll ever be glad about not having Aislyn.  I'm worried enough about us and the boys.  I don't think they even grew winter coats.  They don't seem any fluffier now than they did last summer.

The cats caught a mouse last night. I was gone for the evening and when I got home, the younger cats were taking turns tossing it around so I decided to let them keep it overnight (after making sure the poor thing was dead---I once took a live mouse away from them). Now I can't find it :/. I really hope somebody ate it. If I find a rotted mouse stuck in the couch or something I'm going to be a little annoyed :tongue2:.

Several years ago I had a rather wonderful cat named Priscilla Perversity.  Prissy had brain damage and would be walking along normally, leap into the air, spin in circles, then walk on as if nothing had happened at all.  Despite this, she was one heck of a mouser, and since we lived in an old farm house, this was a good thing except for her habit of stashing mice behind the sofa.  I had to do a stash sweep every other day.  On a different note, she managed to get loose one day when I was saving like mad for her spaying (we found her in a dumpster, I hadn't planned on a cat), and came home in about the condition you would expect.  She taught EVERY ONE of her kittens to walk just like she did!  Apparently, it is also "kitten see, kitten do!"  At that point, I had the money for the vet.  He pronounced the kittens perfectly normal, despite their very odd gait.  One good thing about that...my friends were lining up for a kitten!  Easiest litter I ever found homes for!  And Prissy was duly spayed and lived a good life.  We lost her when she was about10 to a rapid onset and severe URI that just would NOT be treated.  She was a wonderful cat, and is still missed!

When our cats first brought in their catches I made sure that they were all made very much of with praise and pets. Strangely enough, they stopped bringing their catches into the house, and have started stashing them under the pear trees. (Instant fertilizer.)
My cats don't go out, so they must have caught it in the house. There are always mice when you live in the country :/. Also flies. Oh, the flies. But anyway! I hope this is the one that has been scrabbling around in the walls for the last few weeks. Ugh. I don't know what possesses a mouse to come into a house with so many cats! :lol3:

But now I can't shake the feeling that I'm going to sit on the couch right on top of a half-rotted mouse. I'm going to have to shake the throws out and have a good look. . .:p

...with the cats...
yesterday evening the girls, deedee and punky, saw something scoot beside and then behind the fridge in the kitchen. i'm not sure if it was one of their cat toys, a bug, or a mouse. now i keep wondering if a mouse dared to enter our home. i mean, mice get into the basement in the fall/winter (i live in a rural area), but i've always thought to myself, 'God help them, if a mouse should dare to appear in the rest of the house'. the girls are intrepid hunters, that's the height of excitement for them. now i think more about it though, the girls would be hovering around where they'd last seen anything worth hunting.

Considering all the times my boys snuggle with their toy rat, I half wonder if they'll throw a welcome home party for any rodent that shows up.  On the other hand, they're very good at killing toy mice.  So maybe they only like rats?  Murphy did slap a bat in our hallway a few weeks ago.  It hit the wall and laid there and he looked at it, really confused - like, "Well, I got it.  Now what?"  I think he just stunned it because John used his coat to pick it up and put it outside and it flew off.  Seemed fine.

I'm enjoying the mouse stories. I guess sheer desperation for food/warmth drives them into cat homes. When I lived in a house in the woods, one of my cats dropped a very alive mouse on me while I was asleep in bed. My boyfriend and I then flew out of bed to try and save the mouse from four curious cats; we succeeded.

Yesterday, I saved a house centipede(after screaming because they freak me out, unlike spiders) from my kitten. He has killed one previously, despite it biting him(he just shook his paw, then delivered a death blow).

My manager quit this morning. Extremely depressing. I have worked with her for three years. She has been at the business since it started (13 years). Upper managment doesn't seem sure what to do about it. They're definitely not letting us know.

Don't forget to check under the rug. Our kitties like to stash things under the living room rug.

Sounds like Asia and Ra. Spot tries, but he's too eager to be a good hunter (and unless he's being pet, he has a very short attention span), and Princess doesn't care. She'll either get it or she won't--she has fun either way.

I wouldn't save a centipede, but I would  take it from the cats. Those little biters are poisonous, and it would be just our luck that the cats are allergic.

OH, that reminds me...I bought one of those real fur rats for Hekitty.  I toss it on the floor for her, she sniffed it, crouched over it, then pulled it into her tummy and lay there purring...Do you think she was, in her mind, having a kitten, then nursing it?  She still, to this day, will occasionally flop out with that rat snuggled up to her tummy!

Keeping my fingers crossed that the replacement is efficient and wonderful to work with!

I don't know, but I applied anyway.  Sumbitches.
Remember that it is not up to the employer to deny your UI (Unemployment Insurance) benefits, the department makes that decision. All the employer can do is give their side of the story just like you give yours. It is up to the employer to show "misconduct" and the department decides if it is that.

Also, being suspended with  no date to return to work and not being paid for the days you are "on suspension" makes this a termination as of the day they "suspended" you.

I should think that most if not all states now have you apply on-line.
