Hi everybody. My 15 month Bengal x started labour at midnight, by 12.25am she had a beautiful baby, which she has done a thorough job of cleaning and nursing. We thought we had felt maybe 3 or 4 kittens moving in the last week or so. She is very content and hasn't stopped putting since she had her baby but apart from the occasional pant, doesn't seem to be in labour now. She was mated 65 days ago so isn't early. Any advice would be appreciated.

Splendid!  Sorry nobody answered, but as you noticed - as long mamma is OK and no troubles, you can usually wait and see...  next babies will come in their time.  Of course, you must observe, it is somewhat touchy...

You are weighingt them from the beginning?

Hi, thank you for your reply. We have 4 babies and a very content mum. Babies are a bit small, the smallest weighing only 25 grams and the largest 38 grams. Have got some kitten supliment formula and syringes just in case. I probably over reacted as it has been years since I had kittens and it is her first litter. Don't remember there being so long between births before. Will post pics when I work out how. Agai

Are you sure on the weights? A healthy newborn kitten weight is 90-plus grams. Are they latching and nursing well? If not, and the weights are correct, the kittens need supplementing asap!

Just weighed them again to make sure. Don't know what setting scales must have been on but had to change it as Loki had stood on them. Smallest is 85 grams and largest 118 so it's ok. All are feeding well. Thank you

Are you a breeder?  And sure she's a bengal?  Or is her name Bengal?

I think the wording Bengal x  meant a bengal mix...

I do agree with you  Talking Peantut the bengal mix part seems to not to be very big.    But a nice and sweet momma, ana a bunch of tortie kittens...   :)

I see. Thanks.

I saw in another one of M minie 's posts that she owns mom and dad. I hope you have a breeding mentor, but also that you know to keep mom and dad separated all of the time now. Mom can get pregnant at any time after delivery, even without going into heat. Would love to hear more about your breeding program if you are a breeder.

And, of course, more kitten photos!

The parents are both half Bengal mum is a Bengal/ Norwegian forest cross, we are not sure what dad is except bengal. Vet suggested he could be pure Bengal but his mother didn't particularly look Bengal. They are pets and both will be de-sexed. Loki is booked with the vet to be done next week and Precious will be done once babies are weaned. They are both both such lovely natured cats that we wanted one litter before we have them done. Homes have already been arranged for 3 of them and we are seriously considering keeping the other one. Thank you for the advice about keeping them separated, mum and babies are in a large dog crate and dad is supervised when it is open. [emoji]9786[/emoji]

Kittens should stay with mom ideally until around 3 months old. Mom can be spayed when the babies are 8 weeks old. Dad will still be fertile for up to a month after his neuter, so please continue to separate.

Will you have the kittens spayed and neutered before they go to their new homes?

Wouldn't dream of letting kittens go before 13 weeks, years ago I used to breed Persians. The plan is for the kittens and mum to be spayed when the kittens are about 12 weeks old and then theckittens to go to their new homes once given the ok by the vet. I have had a good talk with the vet already. When we bought Precious she was very skinny and under weight. She is still on the small side so the first time she came into season we had a long talk with the vet and she was given an injection to stop her season. She has had several checkups with the vet since then. Only problem was that early hours of New Years Day my vet was unavailable, therefore I panicked abit. Thank you for your concern and advice. It is appreciated but all is well in hand.
