I found a whisker, I am assuming by the length it belongs to my Sam, on the floor today. I'm a bit wooged out by it for some reason, although I get woogies pretty easily. Do cats shed whiskers as they do hair?

Whiskers come and whiskers go, just like hair. Whiskers are just specialized hair shafts, with the hair follicle surrounded by special nerve endings that pick up any movement of the hair shaft. Like any other cat hair, the hair shaft is shed occasionally from a whisker.
I find whiskers whereever they sleep, sometimes after a tussel. It never seems to bother them. Frantic usually looses one after he goes couch diving. When he's had enough of his brother, or Pipsqueek is getting too rough, Frantic dives under the couch and clips one of his eyelash whiskers on the couch. He then walks around with a stub for a couple weeks.
Yep, cats will lose their whiskers. I find them on the floor every now and then, sometimes in the bed too. I have even steppd on a whisker in my bare feet and had it stick in my foot like a needle.
I find whiskers occasionally too. I am going to start a collection

Well I am relieved its a normal thing. I have never had a cat lose any, or at least I have never found one before. Kinda grossed me out like finding a clipped toenail on the floor or something..oh well, Im a wimp I admit it lol
I have one from each one of the kitties. when I found one, I'd compare it to them all and finally got one from each of them! call me weird, but it's like my baby book thing sort of(I have pics of them when they were young and the whiskers attached to the pics). since I have no kids and never will......

My girlfriend thought I was crazy for keeping a few of Miikka's nail clippings from the first time I cut her nails. I will have to show her this post to reaffirm my sanity in her books!
FastDak, she will probably think we are all crazy cat people! LOL!
