Oh, boy, I'm so sorry.  I have read stories about cats coming back or being found after long periods of time but as I'm sure you know, it doesn't always happen that way.  Have you read this article with ideas for finding a lost cat?  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/help-my-cat-is-lost    Maybe there are some ideas there you haven't tried yet.

Good luck to you.

I am so sorry your kitty has been missing for so long.  Was he neutered?  If not, he may be out looking for a mate.  Cats will wander for miles and miles looking for a mate and stay away for very long periods of time.

Have you put up posters or gone door to door with fliers to distribute to your neighbors?  Have you checked the Humane Society or local ASPCA to see if anyone has brought in a cat that  fits his description?  You can also distribute fliers to vets in your area.

I hope that your sweet kitty returns to you soon.

If it makes you feel better:

We had a cat at our mountain home. He was very young (around 5) and he dissapeared. It has been 10 years and a few nights ago we saw him at the house, looking for food. We gave him food and he is there again now.

Now if you want to search for him call all the vets near you (and towns near you), call all shelters, all adoption centers, check with all of your neighbors, check pages that find stray cats and find them a home. Search for him with something he loved (favourite food or toys) and put anything that could attract him back to his house infront of the house. I hope you find him

Also i know this might sound mean but are you sure that the woman that screamed for you to leave didnt take him? Cats get mistaken for strays. Just snoop around a little. If you think she didnt then focus on finding him around your neighborhood, holes, balconies and so on.
