Almost two months ago I adopted two cats. A mother and a daughter. The mother was semi-feral and still isn't fully adjusted. Fast forwarding to present time she will wander around (sometimes) and has made tons of progress. The only problem is now she bites me. Last night while I was sleeping she came up and bit my hand and then my arm. Tonight she was on my bed for the first time ever while I was wake. I put my hand towards her and she sniffed it and then allowed me to pet her. As I am petting her she began to purr and move all around enjoying it. Suddenly she turned around and bite my arm and I told her no. I went to pet her again and she tried to bite my hand. How do I stop this? I've realized the bites aren't her actually trying to cause me harm because she hasn't broken skin. I just don't know how to go about correcting her while making sure she still feels comfortable? She has also began to hiss at me when I bring her food which she has never done previously. Usually I tell her no in a stern voice and show her the food in my hand. She only ever hisses once but I'm a loss. Can someone please help me?

Correct.  Whatever the bites are, they arentintended nor supposed to harm you.

The question is, if its a little too hard love bites, or if they are some sort of warnings.  Both are possible here and in these situations!

But OK, she is hissing some too.   Hissing isnt always a serious threat.  Very often its just a way to make more leeway.  May be done be multiple reasons - somtething right there right then perhaps?  Even some sound YOU dont hear?

OK, here I think, its basically, she is a little bewildered. Lotsa of new feelings, new impressions.  New situations for her.  Even to be petted by you, and getting a pleasure from it, is totally new...  So stand fast. You are on good way, on the right track, just to proceed.  Even if it hurts sometimes.

If the bitings hurts, you may announce this, cats do. Yell some - not too much, but to mark it hurts.  So she knows there is a limit.  But avoid hasty movements and of course avoid all punishment whatsoever.  It may be backslash otherwise.

Shy and timid cats are very easy - too easy - to discipline.  A raised voice give more impression than shouting on a ****-sure, daring socialized home cat...

"disciplining" a shy, timid cat is alike hunting on a sitting duck...   So IF you do it, be sure its just a very small portion, so to speak.

Thank you! I try not to be loud or aggressive just stern when I try and correct her. She has made so much progress that I don't want my correcting to make her regress in any way. I appreciate the information thanks again!

Interesting, the censor function come into play.  And yet the only I wrote was the male of the hen, the rooster.    Although thinking further, I realize this short word  may be used for something else too in everyday english.   :(        So yeah, it was my fault after all,  I must be happy  the censorship function come here, so I didnt got no bashing from our mods.   :)
