So this is about my boy Link, a 2.5 year old pointed DSH:

Has been through a lot the last few months. In August he got bite by something and had surgery plus a drain for an abscess that developed on his abdomen. He got one antibiotic shot and pain medication at that point. Then in September he disappeared for a few days and came home with a broken leg. He was boarded at the vet for 5 days before surgery to put in a pin (tibia was broken) and got two antibiotic shots and pain medication again. Then at the beginning of December we noticed he was not walking well and took him back in. The pin had failed and needed to be removed. Another surgery, more antibiotics and pain medications. He was on strict crate rest and somehow managed to slip his splint/cast down his leg an inch so after an emergency vet visit at 9pm the splint was removed and he had another week of crate rest.

We were supposed to keep him in the crate for 3 weeks and took him out after a little over two weeks but it was Christmas (plus the emergency vet looked at his x-rays and said she didn't see reason for more than 1 more week of crate rest at that point, which he did get). Add on he is scared of bad weather and we've had some storms and my Aunt came over with her dog for Christmas. We just decided he would be less stressed confined to a room rather than the crate with everything happening and he did cry less with everything happening than when he was in the crate. He has been sleeping mostly on the bed where he is and has random bursts of energy where he sprints around before falling back asleep.

He is eating normally, well formed poop, no signs of pain or problems. But I have a lingering worry.

Before the most recent surgery in early December (the 12th to be exact) they did blood work and his white blood cell count was mid 2,000 range (from what I have read cats should be 5,000 minimum). His vet didn't say anything about it and I didn't notice it until I was filing his papers this weekend.  I am worried. He seems to be sleeping slightly more than usual but I also know he is recovering from a lot recently and the low WBC was when his pin had slipped and was working its way out of his leg along with three different courses of antibiotics within the preceding few months isn't terribly surprising.

I do have a phone call with his vet scheduled for next week but his vet is out of town with family until then. His shots are up to date and he tested negative for all the standard cat illnesses prior to vaccines. Things have been a little hectic lately and I am on edge somewhat (my Dad was in ICU for a few days in August, he is well now, and my Uncle passed away last week which are the major things in addition to Link and a dozen minor things since August. I strongly dislike 2016) so any advice, guidance or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Ways to help him along with his recovery? Any ideas to help his body with the low WBC?

Trauma and infections can cause the WBC to be low.  Keep him well fed, resting and indoors and as you are planning, talk to your vet.
