Poor sweet Artie, I'm glad he's eating, I just wish his bum wasn't causing him anymore grief.

I am glad that he had a nice night with mommy relaxing.

I'll be thinking about you two.  xoxo Hope

Would it help, or have you tried mixing the food he doesn't like, but is supposed to eat w/ some of the food he likes, adventually weining off the other food?

I tried mixing the food together... did not work... it seems to be up to him.. he will eat 'so much' of one food and then demand on a different food..then he gets tired of that and wants his 'regular' food--which I am trying/wanting to wean him off of..If a switchover does happen, it is going to take a long time...sigh...

Problem is; I cannot keep washing my sheets... that is the easy part.. my bedspread/quilt is a different issue--it does not fit in my washing machine!! It is either dry cleaners, or a laundromat with heavy duty washing machines...sigh...
I|I may just take that off at night and use the extra fleece blanket....and adjust the heat accordingly...

I did a mix last night-- and, even though he is still on the cyproheptadine, he still refused it...Artie is just one stubborn cat...

OTOH, He is very "happy".... @2Cats4everLoved  , you know what I mean!!!!!

The signal is when I cover up with his soft fleece throw... all bets are off....I mean it!!

This afternoon, I had to remind him: "No WiLLIE"!!   Artie know what that means!! OMG! What kind of cat do I have??????!!!!!!!!

At least he is 'happy'... a couple of times is ok.. but not more than that.....jeesh!! I am doing more than enough laundry as it is, from his diarrhea.....

I still love my little boy...

I have a Cal King bed, and my duvets/comforters fit in my old washer, but not in the one I have now, so I have the same problem as you do.  Fortunately I'm not having those "issues" right now, but if I was, I'd strongly recommend a tarp over it.

An amorous boy?!!

I thought neutering was supposed to put an end to all "amorousness?"  Obviously, I was misinformed.  Connor has been caught pinning and humping his brothers.

LOLOLOLOLOL - I always took it as a good sign when Simon would take his "girlfriend" out for a date. LOL

@Alicia88- I thought the same, with fixing a male.  I think my boy had more of a vasectomy type surgery, because everything was working except for the spraying.  I think it's less invasive.  not sure - I'd have to go back and look at his medical records, but, I will say, it made for one happy kitty. lol

I'm glad Artie is feeling energetic. haha

Good news!!!!!

Well, I'm well past menopause, but that doesn't keep me from having those kinds of feelings.

The thing is, it's not all hormones.  There's nerve tissue involved that's optimized to do one thing only, and most forms of neutering don't remove that.

It's always been policy that all cats in my care get spayed/neutered ASAP.  A "community cat" family we adopted and neutered included brother/sister duo Nila and Maya, who were very close to one another when we lived in our original home; they could often be found cuddling in one another's arms.  We had built a very tall cat tree and put it in our front yard for them.  I began seeing Nila getting amorous with his sister Maya, and panicked, calling our vet and telling him about this.  His response?  He CHUCKLED and said, "Let him do as he wishes."  He assured me Nila was only firing blanks.

Yes, and not only a tarp, but I during this period of time have an OLD comforter on my bed.  Take your nice one off, to the cleaners if need be, and store away until a later time and in it's place, have an old, not so good comforter on your bed with of course the tarp on top of that.  Then, if Artie is like Katie, he will have a favorite spot on your bed to sleep, have a say small "fleece blanket" down on top of the tarp so that Artie is not lying directly on top of an uncomfortable tarp.  This small, say human baby sized fleece blanket is machine washable, small in size, and you can change it out every day if need to.

Artie did not have any diarrhea last night, or this morning... do not know to worry or not!! I am never happy.. Now I am going to be fretting about him and constipation!!  ugh!

I hope he poops tomorrow. I gave him a normal dose of miralax (1/4 tsp) this morning. I am not tempting fate by giving more...I will give him another 1/4 tsp tonight. I am still giving him the cyrproheptadine.

Trying to change him over to the prescription food. He does not care for it, but while he is on the crypro, perhaps I can get him accustomed to it. I would rather have that, so we can all be on the same food when I speak with the Vets...

I also think the prescription food is better for him. I do not think the clay in the Natures Variety line of foods is good for constipated cats.

For IBD cats, I feel it is good because it can help regulate their diarrhea.. but Artie never had that symptom.-- he had constipation from day one.. before I stated feeding him the Natures Variety line.

But it is all up to what he will eat.. he settled on Natures Variety Pride line.. or he will starve himself .....sigh...

I have to drop off the Christmas stuff to storage .. go to rVet to pick up some food, and then to Trader Joes for some yogurt..so my day will be full.

Artie was cuddling with me this morning. I think it was because he was hungry and his dish was licked clean! Funny, he did not wake my up by his usual tap, tap, tap, Meow..... has not done that for a long time, but he is purring and loving to be brushed.. cannot touch his bum area, yet.. must be so sore...poor thing.. gotta go give him some more meds...

He weighs 10.1 lbs.. the same.. he needs to put more weight on... or my scale needs new batteries...

Artie is sunning himself right now, on his old cat tree. His quilt is in the dryer.

Right now, I'm willing to call not LOSING any weight a win!  But bless his poor little sore catfanny!  Thinking of you both!

And to those of you will amorous neutered boys...no, all it does is stop the kittens.  And the older the tom was when he was neutered, the more likely that he will continue his "lovin' feelins...whoooaooaa, his lovin; feelins..." after neutering.

I agree with the above.  If he hasn't lost weight and isn't having diarrhea, I'd personally lay off the Miralax for a day.

Miralax won't help an already stool soften.  My understanding about Miralax is that it helps those to prevent hard stools, it's not supposed to work as a laxative.  That is one problem I had with Chestnut.  It was hard on her system and never really helped.  Baby food, Green Beans worked for her the best.

He can't be feeling well.  Poor guy.  Although, I'm chalking up last night and today as a positive.  He just needs to get the bowels flowing on a more normal basis.

I know it's frustrating, but hang in there.  I promise it will fall into place.

xoxo  Hope

Well, Artie did poop a nice soft poop--it was small, only about 4 inches, and thin, but it was a nice texture...

He is yelling at me now.. Yes, yelling, howling almost, when he wants new food. That is when he is sick of the food he has out... The howling is due to the cyproheptadine.. what a loud voice.. it makes me jump..

It is either for food or when his litter box is full, as if I would forget to scoop it!!!

Tonight, Artie still had his prescription food, but he wanted new food.. I was trying to make something for supper. He came up right behind me, and yowled!!! a few times!! sassing me off...

Even though he wants food, he refused to eat what was down.. I did have a slice of toast.. he crawled on my lap for some of it!! I had to give him a bit of butter.. yes, butter on my fingers!! one at a time.. he took 4 fingers and had enough...

It is an hour and a half after the yowling, and he ran out from under his quilt tent, running over to the food, which I have not changed....

Today, I was feeling really wiped out. I did some errands and put some things in off site storage. I came home freezing. I took a hot shower, and decided to lie down. Sure enough, Artie had to cuddle with me.. .. I love my boy...

Now, fingers crossed for more poops tomorrow...

I did not give him any miralax since Friday.. This morning I gave him 1/4 tsp ~~ which was his normal dose.

Hopefully I am not too late to 'catch ' things before they happen.

This is really good news.  The biggest part of it all is trying not to get too stressed out.  Like Simon and I, when we finally got into a rhythm, we both felt it and Simon was considerably happier when I was happy and calm.

Enjoy this time with Artie, it sounds like he is.  You never know, he may be ready to chase a string on the bed or be ready for some light simple play/stimulation.

Congratulations.  xoxo  hugs for you and Artie.

Warmest regards always, Hope

Sounds like perfectly normal feline behavior to me -- Jasmine does that all the time.

If Artie is feeling good enough to play dominance games with his food, he's feeling better.  Congratulations.

 Yay, thats all good news. I had to giggle at Artie being sassy. :lol3: I'm glad he had a good day. Hopefully his system is balancing out a bit now, & will continue to get better.
Give that sassy little boy a big kiss for me! [emoji]128522[/emoji]
