I have a 14 year old that recently lost her best kitty friend to cancer. They never had a perfect relationship, but were very close.

This kitty has been showing signs of dementia. Her vet agrees. She also has high blood pressure and her kidneys are failing slowly.

She's started running into my room at night in what appears to be a blinding panic. She did it this morning, and I saw that her eyes were dialated.

She has a problem in the dark, probably a combination of failing eyesight and the possible onset of dementia., and so I am going to start leaving a soft light on where she sleeps (the living room; she is also welcome to sleep in my bedroom).

My questions are:

1) Can high blood pressure in cats cause panic attacks?
2) Can dementia in cats cause panic attacks?

Thank you!

I don't think high blood pressure can, but the dementia can cause all sorts of behavioral issues.  http://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/neurological/c_ct_cognitive_dysfunction_syndrome

Thank you! I'd figured it might be the dementia.
