Hi, a stray cat I have been feeding gave birth to five beautiful kittens on the 15th of December. They've all opened their eyes except for one, the runt (my fav), hasn't opened its eyes yet. It was very dry since few days, but today I noticed some yellow pus like discharge on one of its eyes. Later when I went to check again both eyes had pus like discharge. I've already taken an appointment with the vet for tomorrow but is there anything at all i can do to help it!? I'm so scared. [emoji]128557[/emoji]

Kitten eye infection

It's normal for one kitten, especially the runt, to open their eyes at a later time. But pus may indicate an infection, also very common in kittens. Wipe the eyes very gently with a cotton ball or clean rag with warm saline water to keep the pus from crusting. This is made by boiling one cup of water with 1/2 teaspoon of water and letting it cool. I have tried many home solutions to eye infections and the best is always to get a tube of antibiotic from your vet or internet pet pharmacy. When the eyes are closed it will be applied to the outside, never touching the tip of the tube to the eye. Once the eyes are open, pull the lower lid down and apply a thin strip to the pocket that is formed, once again never touching the eye.You could bring in a picture to your vet if you can't bring the kitten in, but they might want to take a temp. etc., Good luck and keep us posted!

I agree that antibiotic ointment from the vet will clear this right up. Make sure to wipe each eye with boiled and then cooled water to prevent it from getting stuck and closed until then.

Update on kitten-
There is no pus like discharge anymore, but the right eye looks very sore kind of like light red/pink colour.
And the left is very dry and crusty. I'm still gonna take it to the vet. Hopefully there's no permanent damage or anything!
Di and Bob- I tried with warm water alone but its kind of hard, the kitty moves lot. And when it starts crying, the mom cat gets a little anxious I think, so I just let it go!
talkingpeanut- no, unfortunately I cannot take them in as my sister is afraid of cats (especially the mom cat).
I've made a box out of cardboard and with some towels in the building itself. And I do change the water everyday and give her kitten wet food plus dry food.
And my neighbor and I are thinking about spaying her after a few weeks. Hopefully she won't get pregnant again until then. This is her second litter this year.

Hi.
I'm taking the kitten to the vet today, so I wanted to if it is OK to give skimmed goat milk to the kitten? I couldn't find KMR or Raw goat milk, I've been looking for it since yesterday.
And the clinic is a bit far.
Goat milk would be fine. You are doing so good with this little family, they are so blessed to have you in their lives. I wish the very best for your future!

We went to the vet today, he has given an ointment to apply twice a day. One eye looks fine, the other is red and swollen but we can't tell now if it has affected the vision. Hopefully it hasn't!
I'm gonna take him (YESSSS, ITS A BOY) again after five days to the vet.
Also gonna get the mama cat spayed.

They're with their mum, I do sometimes try to feed goat milk but he wants nothing to do with it.
I had gone to the vet today, his right cornea has been infected. The vet also also said that he is a dwarf, he is gonna be a small cat with a big head.
But our main concern right now is he hasn't been pooping. The vet gave him olive oil. Lets see!

Yesterday my neighbour found a dead kitten on their door mat, I was told it was the mother. But today morning the remaining kittens were on my door (which is in the first floor, and they were kept on the ground floor) while the mom was chasing the male cat away.
I took them in as it was too cold outside, I then moved their place. And I also stopped keeping the food near the nest, I kept it away so I could keep the nest as hidden as possible.
I feel so helpless right now.

What is the current situation? The best thing is to keep momma & her kittens inside with you. Then when they are weaned have momma spayed. You can then adopt out the kittens & momma or keep momma & a single kitten maybe. We usually don't advocate here feeding cats unless you plan to get them fixed.
How deep is the wound? Keep it clean, apply (appropriate) pressure to stop the bleeding, keep the kitten warm and hydrated, and take him/her to the vet once they open.
