Oh man! It seems that lately we've been going to the vet more than ever. If it's not one thing, it's another. And recently it's one issue that is making me paranoid, though I did talk to the vet extensively about this and he didn't seem to worry too much about it. Ringworm. We adopted a 2 month old kitten from a shelter. I have two other cats both of whom are totally house cats. First, the kitten had some stomach issues - got that treated. Then, about a week ago I noticed a patch of hair missing from the back of his ear. At first I thought it was a piece of hair he lost while wrestling with my 9 month old kitten because it didn't really look like the ringworm in internet pics. But when the kitten developed fever and didn't feel well, we took him to the vet, I also asked them to check the spot out. The vet said right away that this was fungal related and prescribed Conzol on top of the medicine to treat the fever. He also got a shot while there, for the fever. He is feeling a lot better now and back to his old self. But the fungal spot on his ear looks awful!. It has crust and redness, and the hair around it is matted, which must be due to the medicine that I have to apply twice a day. He's been taking the meds now for almost a week, and I can't say either way if this fungus is getting any better or worse. I went back to talk to the vet again a couple of days after we started him on the meds to get some reassurance. I've heard all sorts of horror stories about ringworm and it left me totally paranoid about it. I have a 9 year old child and an older person in the house, and two other cats, and I don't want this thing to be spread to any of them. I've been spraying Lysol on everything, too. Isolating the kitten isn't an option. The vet said that once the treatment has begun, it would stop the spread of the fungus, but he said we'd have to treat it religiously with the meds for at least 3 weeks. I am still worried though, especially since I can't say whether the meds is doing any good, if the ugly crust and redness is due to the area healing or because it's getting worse.

If anybody here knows more about this and has had experience with this thing, please let me know how you dealt with it and how fast you were able to get rid of this problem. Thank you!

I've had ringworms in my cats long time a go. It took several weeks for it to clear up. I won't happen overnight

Best thing you can do is keep everything clean as possible, especially the areas he's been hanging around in. Wash all beddings daily if you have to.

I've used Collodial Silver on the infected areas and it helped. I also bathed my cats to keep them clean as possible (it was easy then because one of them was just a young kitten.)

Here's some articles that may help you as well:
