being in bc canada as well i feel the pain!
i usually feed ultra wet and dry and its about 3-4 bucks a 13 oz can (its been a while since we got it so dont remember exact prices) :( boyfriend got the bag last so idk the bag price

and since i switched to weruva its 3.19 a can for the 6oz trulux cans and i think 2.99 a 10oz can for bff before tax anyways.

oh and btw because a lot of people said to get Sheba! its very very hard to get sheba here most places wont sell it as far as I have seen.

we actually do sell lots of canadian foods here! like orijen, canadian naturals, acana, performatrin, now! and i think GO is another these might be a bit cheaper because theres no import fees.

Open farm is formulated here but manufactured in usa.

I feed 2 cans of fancy feast per day and order through Chewys for about 42 cents a can. That averages to about $25 or $26 a month for my one cat.

I'm in the U.S. but I've been spending an average of $45 a month on food  for 1 cat.  She eats about 4 ounces of wet and 1/8th of a cup of dry per day.  I give mainly mid-range priced food such as Nutro, Merrick, Soulistic, and Weruva CITK.

I have 8 cats. I feed Blue Buffalo wilderness dry and Natural Balance canned the 5.5 oz cans. In dry food a month I spend approx $64.00, wet food is $140 and litter is anywhere between $36-$45. I get litter at sams club and 48 lbs is usually $15 but do find it on sale some months for $12. I go through 3 48 lbs bags of litter a month. So that is around $250 a month for 8 cats which equals about $32.00 a month for each cat which isn't bad. I don't feed them the absolute best food but it is good quality and they are happy and healthy and that is what really matters.

I try to keep my costs relatively low with regard to my gal's menu, but I do my best to give her food that's healthy (to avoid ingredients that could prove troublesome).  I am a bargain hunter and my gal's rotation is substantial, so when I find XYZ store selling Newman's Own grain free 2 cans for a buck, I jump on it.  I buy cases of 24 cans from Chewy's and others.  When there's s good quality dry brand at discount, I place it in my shopping cart (online or otherwise) ASAP.  I also hunt for coupons.  All that said,  I budget approximately $35 per month for food alone.  A 20-lbs bag of Jonny Cat litter (her favorite) will last me over 1 month and can be had at Chewy's for 6 bucks.  Incidentally, all told I have at least 60 cans and three bags of dry in the house on any given day.  Frankly, I avoid exceedingly expensive brand names like Orijen, Royal Canin, Go or Taste of the Wild.  My go-to brands are Purina Beyond, Purina Pro Plan True Nature, Evolve and Natural Value, with Whole Earth Farms and Natural Balance occasionally thrown in the mix.

I need to mention that my gal is not big eater.  She rarely finishes a 3oz can, unless it's one of the Sardine flavors from Natural Value, or either Purina Beyond Turkey or  Purina True Nature  Beef.

I am planning on purchasing a Pioneer Stainless Teardrop water fountain for my three cats. They dine on mostly premium canned food and I supplement with Petcurean Go Fit! kibble. It costs me about $175.00 per month and I cut corners on other luxuries in order to do this.

I spend around $800 a month just on food for 10 indoor cats but 4-5 outdoor feral cats. Everyone eats raw and/or high quality canned. No kibble. Good food isn't cheap.

On top of food and litter. If I were to add up yearly vet check ups, toys, trees, fancy water fountains and treats. I am liable to pass out. I never ever add those up. My cats are spoiled like my children so when I go to the store I am known to spend $40-$50 on just darn toys I see that they don't have. Their cat trees look a little beat up and I'm on the hunt for a new one. I have 4 total through out the house. Oh look freeze dried treats! Yup need a few bags of those too, why oh why are these so darn pricey? With 8 cats one small bag is done in no time.

My friends and family laughed at me the other day on Christmas. Under my tree I had wrapped up cat nip, new scratchers, these battery powered butterflies on wires that spin around, one of those peek a boo toys where there is a cover with something that runs around underneath it like a mouse under a blanket, this laser light that you can set up on the floor and it does random patterns and speeds, it zig zags, goes up and down and yes another toy that takes batteries and then we had to replace a few of DaBirds worlds greatest kitty toy my cats chatter and chirp as soon as they see it lol.

I'm spending about $250 CDN a month after taxes, on food for my two, who are now six months old, on their basic food. Orijen kibble along with Nature's Instinct, Nutro and Wild Calling wet. I also buy them "dental" treats that is their vice of choice.

If you want to save money (who doesn't?), Petsmart and other large retailers often have promotions where you get a discount if you buy online and pick up the order in store. I try and stock up and can save up $30 or so a month this way.

The expenses after adopting are pretty normal.

I spent about $150 in the pet store immediately after adopting Bud, just for his bowls, food, some toys, bed (which he never uses), litter box, litter, etc. That was WITHOUT spending money on a carrier or a scratcher, 'cause my awesome brother got those things for me. (I adopted Bud about a week after my birthday.)

The vet was $200 or $300, I don't remember exactly. That was for the shots, neutering, and pain medication for Bud after neutering. The pain meds were given to me in "syringes" with soft edges so I could just squeeze them into his mouth.

Blue Buffalo is expensive!!!

I admit I feed exclusively Blue Buffalo when it comes to dry food. I buy two big bags, one Chicken flavor and one Duck, and that lasts a while. Bud's coat is extraordinarily silky, and I think BB is a big part of that.

As for canned food, I fed him Blue Buffalo exclusively in the beginning, but there were two problems: 1) Even the small cans are like $1.29 or $1.39 here, and 2) He's a pain about "leftovers."

So now I feed him Sheba Perfect Portions, which come in packs of two 1.2-oz individually sealed portions. He loves it. PP comes in beef, chicken, turkey and salmon as well as a few other flavors. Sheba isn't an ultra-premium brand but it's grain free and turkey/chicken/beef etc is the first ingredient.

Sheba PP is usually between 60 cents and 70 cents per package (2 meals), but you can order cases on Amazon or Chewy. I find it's worth it just to save food that Bud wouldn't eat because it was in the fridge, and to avoid the whole leftover hassle of heating it and encouraging him to eat it.

What I do, to keep his palate fresh and make sure his diet is healthy, is mix in a premium food, usually Nutro Perfect Portions. I find the biggest problem these days is rotating enough flavors in his diet that he doesn't get sick of any of them and eats his wet food.

Hope that helps.
