Hello,
My 14 year old cat's upper jaw is swollen. Doesn't hurt her if I touch it and she let me look at her teeth. Still eats real good. Acts like she feels good. What could it be? She's strictly an inside cat. No snake bite but maybe a spider? I live in a small town and vet won't be back til late tomorrow or friday morning. No swelling when I left for work this morning. Came up all of a sudden. Any advice or info? Thanks, Cathy

I would probably just keep a close eye on her for now. As long as she's still eating & acting normal, I wouldn't worry too much.

I would suspect some kind of insect bite.

Things I'd watch out for:

Not eating
Lethargic
Trouble breathing
Fever (sometimes you can tell by their ears, but of course the best way is a rectal thermometer - never tried it myself)
Drooling

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on her. She's real playful for an older cat so it'll be easy to tell if she feels bad. She's my baby. Can't let anything happen to her.

Believe me, I understand! Here's hoping it's nothing serious & goes away by itself.
