I noticed this morning that my cat has a small circle on his eye (as in the picture). There is no other symptoms like red eye, excessive tear, or signs of itching. I can't tell whether it's a dent or something attached to it. It's near Christmas so the vet may be unavailable in the following several days. Does anyone know what happens to him? Is it emergent?

Eyes heal incredibly fast so if he is showing no signs of a problem it could simply be something on his eye or a scratch neither of which anything can really be done except waiting. I would make an appointment for a few days out in case it doesn't resolve itself and cancel the appointment if it does.

If you notice any signs of discomfort, discoloration, cloudiness, rubbing his face, lethargic behavior, etc then I would take him to the vet ASAP. Mostly because it is the eye and things can go form bad to worse incredibly quickly and I wouldn't want to risk my cats eyesight over the cost of an emergency visit.

Thanks! I was worried that cats' eyes wouldn't heal. Glad to know it can.. But this might just be something on his eye. I didn't find it a few hours after I posted this. I was relieved!

It looks like it could be an eye ulcer in the cornea because it is circular. I agree with Keika that if there are no other symptoms such as tears, redness of the eye white, blinking, or cloudiness, or pawing at the eye that it should heal on its own in a few days.

If it does not go away, or gets worse, kitty would need to see the vet. Ulcers can lead to loss of sight if they are causing symptoms and are not treated. Treatment for ulcers is pretty straight forward and not costly. When my cat had an ulcer the vet did an eye stain to confirm that it was an ulcer and prescribed an antibiotic eye ointment that really helped. My cat was on a steroid treatment at the time that led to the ulcer forming, so I had to stop that so the ulcer could heal.
