Hi! i'm new to the forum, just today, less than six hours ago, i took in from the streets a cat and her five kittens. They had been abandoned by their previous owner and i wasn't going to leave them by themselves on the streets. I brought them in and i am taking care of them. I went to the vet and he told me to feed her with food for young cats, because it has nutrients that will benefit the babies. I bought a litter box but she hasn't used it at all, she just smelled it and nothing else. She's very nice she explored my whole apartment, my closet included, she took a little nap all over my clothes. She hasn't peed or pooped yet, should i worry about it? Also any advice would be helpful, i've always wanted a cat in my house but she is my first. I named her Leia by the way. Thank you!

It seems she is doing all right.  Its exciing time for them, its common they dont  use the litter the first day or even two...  But she knows there IS a litter waiting for her.

The usual advice is to confine them to a safe room the first days. But if she could search out the house and still be OK with it, its good and promising.

How old are the kittens?  With the kittens present, its best to use non clumping litter.  Because kittens alike babies, may taste on everything, and we dont wat clumping litter in their stomach...

Vets advice "think kitten or young cat food" for momma is wise.  goats milk is another tip - nutrious and completely safe, unlike cow milk.  A good supplement and if dire need, OK to use for the kittens as a kmr.

A little cheese, a little plain unsweetened full fat youghurt are good to - momma probably needs lotsa of calcium.

Tx for caring!!!!

And please come back with any questions and reports.

Thanks for your answer! So far Leia is doing quite well, she's very polite, she's eating well and is using the litter box normally! The kittens are just opening their eyes, Leia feeds them regularly and I just make sure they all get to eat.

She will eventually use the litter box. Do you have the kittens in a nest? Make sure mama kitty has unlimited dry kitten chow and wet food several times a day. Thank you for bringing them in!
