I just rescued a cat from my local shelter. Well one of her eyes kept getting boogers in it and when i'd wipe them off, it'd come back like a couple mins later. So I went to the vet and he didn't really even look at her eye, or so it seemed. He says she has conjuctivitis but it didn't look THAT bad to me. I've had conjuctivitis with my chinchilla's and her eye didn't look anything like that. It also seems like its been getting worse, it looked better before the vet gave her the ointment. Is this normal? I just thought it was weird that he didn't really look like around her eye or anything.

You can do one of two things.

1) Go back to the vet and insist upon a re-examination. Do mention that you feel that due attention was not given and the eye has now become worse, rather than better.

2) Get a second opinion from another vet. Do tell them of your initial visit with another vet, what medication was prescribed and how many doses you have used on the eye and what has happenned since the vet visit.

I've never had any problems with conjunctivitis in my cats so I am unable to say what should happen in a vet consultation but common sense tells me that the vet should pay particular attention to both eyes and do a check for possible upper respiratory infection as well.

I don't know how you vet is doing things . But at my vet a vettech is comming to get the cat in the back to check fever , weight , clean ears and cut nails . The vet usualy looks then (in the back room) the first time at the cat for a check up exame . Then my cat is brought back by the vettech and a little while later the vet will come in the examine room to me and look again at the patiant .
