Hey, guys,

I think I'm ready to take the next step in the raw food world and move on to chunks of meat instead of all ground up meals. I have been buying cubed meat from Hare Today and cutting the pieces a little smaller and adding it to the mix so they've had a good start on chewing chunks.

I've been reading up on frankenprey feeding through this site  .

I started filling up my cart on Hare Today after making calculations based on my cats' weight and figured how many pounds/ounces I would need of each for a month. I thought, this is going to be easy, as I picked out boneless meat chunks and hearts and lungs and organs and liver. But then I realized I have to feed bone! Now I'm all confused. Because I don't know where to get the bone from, and I realize you can get bone-in meats like chicken necks, but then how do I calculate how much meat that adds to the diet? and how much bone? Ahhhhhh! Help.

For example, they have rabbit chunks that contain 75% meat 15% bone 10% organ [liver, pancreas, kidney]. For the pieces with bone, how do I know how many to feed...yeah, I'm just confused. Any suggestions on how to add bone into a frankenprey diet???? Can I just add in a supplement for the bone, at least for starters??

AND ANOTHER QUESTION.

I see they feed three meals in all these menus. That is not going to be possible for me, because the whole reason I'm switching to this from the pre-ground and Alnutrin is because I'm about to go back to school and get a job full time and it seems like there will be less prep? Am I correct? So can I just do 2 meals on frankenprey?

I really hope someone can answer all my questions!!

  • 80% raw boneless meat. This includes primarily muscle meat but can also include things like fat and skin, along with any kind of connective tissue such as tendons, sinew, cartilage etc.
  • 10% raw edible sized meaty bones.
  • 5-10% squishy organ meats, with half that amount being liver.
Reading on that website ^^ it says 10% raw meaty bones. So could I just feed 10% raw meaty bones and not worry about the extra meat that comes along with it?

I never really fed bone other than when I was feeding ground, but YES, you can certainly supplement bone with a supplement, like egg shell powder, or any other type of calcium supplement you can find. This thread might be helpful for you:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/263426/...hydroxyapatite-to-balance-meat-or-meat-organs

As far as time savings,  I found serving up frankenprey took a lot of time on the days I cut everything up into the right sized pieces and portioned it out and packaged it for the freezer.  After that it was a snap.  You can serve just two meals a day of you want....that's completely up to you.  Many people do two meals only.  Some do four.  Whatever works with your schedule.

BTW, don't forget that hearts are considered muscle meat, and you do want to feed them hearts in their rotation.  They are full of taurine..more so than anything else, I believe.
