Salut!

(Sort of an extension of yesterday's Q of the Day by @MoochNNoodles)

Would you rather.....

Travel back in time to meet your ancestors (8-10 generations ago)

OR

Travel to the future to meet your descendants (Great Great Great Great+ Grandchildren or nieces/nephews)

I would totally choose meeting some of my ancestors, for sooooo many reasons!

What a hard question!!

Go back and meet my ancestors, definitely!  Although I fear that it would really deflate my opinons probably, and make me realize they were just ordinary folks instead of the heroes I have built up in my head.  I mean it might be bad if I learned my GGG Grandfather was an evil person haha!  Still, I'd take the chance.

I would really enjoy traveling back in time.. I really feel as if I am an "older' soul... I sometimes feel I would be very comfortable in the past.. as late as the 40's and 50's and earlier than that--think 1900's, 1920's, 1800's...

I don't know. Neither really. I think that if I went back in time to my great-great- great - great whatever and said, "Hi there. I'm your (blank). What's for dinner?, they'd probably call me blasphemous and have me burned as a witch or something. That wasn't on my agenda for today.

I don't see any grands in my future unless they are grand-cats and that's fine with me. DD does not want children. As far as grand nieces and nephews, I'd show up and say, "Hi there. I'm your (blank)". They'd likely say, "Congratulations. Get lost".

"Hey there  great grand-cats! I'm your (blank)."

I'll just stay here. I have my DD and my furkids. I'm good.

I don't really have any affection for the past. I'm sure some things were OK but I'll stick with modern gender relations, worker's rights, health care, and hygiene, thanks. I wouldn't be of the privileged class so life would be pretty crummy. I think the past gets romanticized a lot but remember that history was written by the rich dudes! For everyone else it wasn't great. Maybe a short visit to a momentous event would be OK.

Same for the future. I'd like to get a peek at how things work out but not a long visit. I wouldn't want to be a person out of time. I've watched enough Star Trek to know how that usually works out! :lol3:

Definitely go back to meet my ancestors but only for a day or two, mostly out of curiosity.

Since I don't have any kids I don't care about going to the future. I would much rather go back and meet my ancestors.

Definitely back.  I have some very interesting folks hanging off of my family tree, on both sides.

I think I'd like to meet my ancestors. it's a hard choice but I'd like to know more about them. Who they were. Were they successful. Wealthy, poor. Etc. I only know about 3-4 generations back now.

Oddly enough one of my ancestors was accused of witch craft, although I believe they escaped being burnt at the stake.

I think I'd like to go back and meet my ancestors. I wouldn't tell them who I was. I'd try to pass myself of as a long-lost cousin and join the clan. It would be interesting to see if some of those stories I've heard about the family were true or not.

If they are true my ancestors of 8 ~ 10 generations ago were all charging around the North of England on horseback, living in castles and doing battle with rival clans. That would be a fun weekend!

Supposedly one of my dad's ancestors was hanged as a witch (I don't think any were actually burned?). The people accused of being witches were simply odd, socially awkward, perhaps mentally ill, etc. Many "crazy cat ladies" were accused :(. Because high-functioning autism runs in the family on my dad's side, I suspect that's why she was killed. I wouldn't like to go back to that time because the cruelty and unfairness would be overwhelming.

I guess I am the odd ball. Travel to the future to see how things come about. I don't have kids, and we weren't close to family members...I like living with creature comforts-not looking forward to going back in the past to live it rough without running water/heat..

I would love to go back and meet my ancestors. I wish I had listened to my grandmother when she tried to talk about it. At the time, I didn't have any idea what a genealogist I would turn out to be and how much her words would have helped me.

Travel back in time to meet my ancestors.  I am guessing they would be somewhere in Eastern Europe.  I'd like to see if there are any traits or features that have made it up until now.  I just saw a portrait of my father's parents who I never met, the photo was taken around 1900.  I noticed that my Grandfather had the same type of little bags under his eyes as I do!
