I know this is a cat forum, but I don't really have any where else to ask this question so here goes...

I have a iPod Nano 3rd generation from (2007). It has all its original hard drive and battery. It is pushing 10 YEARS old. It no longer knows what time it is or the calendar year (thinks its in 2013). The pause button is effy. Every thing else works great. It is faster than my iPhone with picking a song, etc (iPhone is a 5 and made in 2012).

Can I make this thing work until its 15 years old or is that really pushing it? Its 15 year 'birthday' is only 5 years away.

Thanks!

I had an mp3 player for roughly 10 years and it crapped out over the summer. So I can't say an ipod would last 15 years although I know they are pretty expensive. I was sad about my mp3 player because I listened to the radio on it when I was on the bus. I now have an iphone and songs downloaded from iTunes but they get old fast lol.

Maybe. I think it really depends on how much you use it. I would think at some point it would start having issues where it is no longer compatible with software, etc.

@oldgloryrags88, the biggest worry might be the iPod battery. It can only take so many charges before it dies completely and can't be charged back up at all. And at that point, you have to send it back to Apple for a new battery, I think. You cannot put another battery in it; it must be done by Apple.

I'm not sure, but I think your iPod could be charged....400 times? And I don't remember where I read that.

I have iTunes on my computer and I will not accept anymore updates or upgrades from Apple for iTunes. Every time I do, I have trouble with my iPod, trying to save songs, change songs, etc. I gave up.

If you have any Apple kiosks at your local mall, you might want to ask there.

I have a first generation Nano. 2 GB. It still works.
