Just under two weeks ago our little Arthur was hit by a car and he has damage to his rear end.

He is fighting. We rescued him 9 months ago and he is so loveable.

X-rays were inconclusive if his spine was severed or just suffering nerve damage. He has a broken pelvis. His back two legs and his tail were completely limp and he didn't appear to have any feeling there. The vets weren't hopeful and give him till 1 that day to see if there was any improvement.

We felt heart broken and thought we were going to lose him but he did react when the vet touched his leg and that bought him some more time.

Since then he looks like his normal self, nice bright eyes and he's eating as normal and seems happy. He drags his back legs behind him when he moves around the pen we have put him in.

We are having to empty his bladder and shower him down there but we're happy to do that. Last week the vet was saying that he wanted see if Arthur had control of his bladder and if he could poo.

A couple of days later he pulled himself into his litter tray and did a poo. We thought it was a miracle. However he hasn't done that since but poo has come out of him which we've cleaned away.

On the positive side he started to respond last week when I touched one of his paw pads, I did this when he was relaxed and when I did it he turned round as if to say "I felt that!"

We have started giving him some physio. "Cycling" his legs around and we've been able to feel pulsing sensations in his legs and saw his paws move slightly and slowly at the weekend.

The vet said on Friday that he has regained some feeling at the top of his tail (near his bottom). So that's another positive too.

We think he is doing really well but the vet is quite negative although I do believe he is a very good vet.

Last night he sprayed pee when we were cleaning him. I can't help but think this is another good sign as surely he wouldn't be able to do that if he had no muscle control in that area.

Can anybody provide any comments or advice to help me and Arthur.

Thank you.

I think it's going to take time to heal. I had a kitty who was hit by a car back in the late 1990s. She also didn't walk well for the first 2 weeks. We tried to express her bladder but she was stubborn. and held it in. I put a small box with litter in her box-she crawled in and sat and peed. So we just kept her in a big cardboard box with food/water and litter. We massaged her feet/legs. The vet said to watch for peeing blood the first 24 hours. since it sounds like it's been more than 24 hours-just give it time. The cat body is a funny thing. they heal so well. Is the cat home with you?

Thank you for giving the cat a chance. It took a good month for my girl to heal enough to walk around. Her pelvis was fractured but there wasn't much we could do. It was mostly soft tissue injury-which takes 4 to 8 weeks to heal. So for now just keep doing what you are doing.

Arthur is home with us but he stayed at the vets for three nights.

When we rescued him my wife found him at night on the motorway, she brought him home and he snuggled up to me, I've been smitten ever since.

Just want him to recover don't care how long it takes.

I think that you are doing everything right. Keep up the good work. Thank you for caring about this little one. He is so lucky to have you.

I don't think the vet is trying to be negative. I think it's more that he is trying to tell you that it could go either way and is not trying to give you false hope in case the worst happens.  it sounds to me like you've got a little fighter on your hands and he sounds pretty determined to recover from this and since he is fortunate enough to have a mom and dad who are willing to go the extra miles to help him, I think he can do it. Keep doing what you are doing and give him lots of praise when you see any improvement. Sending out lots of love and healing vibes to sweet little Arthur
