Asthma vs tidycats clumping litter?

So, in a previous thread I'd mentioned my young kitten (he's nearly 5 months!) has had some wheezing issues that really, really seems like it's cat asthma. He had a URI that was treated prior to me adopting him, and still sneezes  daily, has some eye discharge, and had what really seemed like an asthma attack the other night after running around after using his box (the freedom gallop). I also heard on a Facebook thread that some people had noticed some respiratory issues in their cats after starting to use Tidycats clumping litter, which is what I also use.

What are some good resources for finding which litter may at least help ease his symptoms/breathing?

Should I be worried that he's using clumping litter at around 5 months? If he had some diarrhea issues that didn't turn up with worms (waiting on PCR test results currently), could the clumping litter potentially play a role? He does clean his feet every once in a while, and I've read that's an issue sometimes.

Are there any helpful resources on comparing types of litter? I think I've only ever known cats who used clumping litter before, so I'm not really sure the differences in mechanics (how often to clean, etc.) between clumping/non clumping, and various resources I've found so far seem to vary slightly.

I don't have any experience with this, but this thread may help. :)

Personally, I switched my cats to a clumping grass-based litter and it's really excellent. NO dust so much healthier for us all. Corn litter is OK but does not clump as well; the grass one is great. The best clay litter I've found if Arm and Hammer Clump & Seal- the 'light' version has zero dust. It is scented though, which may bother some people or some cats. I use Fresh 4 Life Eco-clump, but there are a couple of other grass-based brands also.
