Hi,
I'm putting all three of my fur babies back on raw today. I thought about sourcing the meat myself but my mom was concerned about the antibiotics and hormones used in grocery store meats. So, we decided to buy a few bags of premixed raw meat. I came across Primal this morning after doing some research. I was wondering if anyone has ever used it and if they have any experience with it.
Please let me know.
Thank you.

I've tried the pheasant, rabbit, and Venision nuggets. It was met with mixed reviews. At first they didn't really care for any of it, but then they started to eat it.
I have eight furkids. They seem to prefer Bravo with Alnutrion and Natures Variety.

Oops! Didn't notice that you had responded. Thank you. Unfortunately, when I went to Global Pet Foods, there was only the option of freeze dry which I didn't like the idea of so I stuck to raw meat. I bought MDF's so called cat food and I'm planning on adding muscle meat to it to balance it out since it's just chicken neck and turkey liver.

Our cats love freeze-dried raw food! They eat three brands of it (Feline Natural, Primal, and Northwest Naturals) after having rejected Primal's frozen food long ago. Their only Primal food is now the pork. After a suspected recipe change, they decided they didn't like the turkey; I didn't like the chicken recipe after carrot was added.

@Graceful-Lily, what is "MDF's so-called cat food"?! Is it already balanced with all the necessary nutrients?

My kitties like primal raw. They love the freeze dried ones in turkey and chicken&salmon added with water.

Chicken neck, turkey neck, and liver is not a balanced diet. Are you adding supplements or anything else? Have you read Dr. Lisa Pietson's website? www.cat-info.org

I give them one can of wet food along with the raw. I am aware it's not a balanced diet. I've been researching and doing this for months now.

Also, like I said before, I'll be adding muscle meat to balance it out and I'm also planning on purchasing a supplement to add to the meat.

Lisa HE, what did Primal change with the FD turkey other than adding montmorillonite clay? I have one cat who won't eat homemade raw, but will eat Primal turkey. Thanks. :)

I don't know what ingredient(s) they changed, @LisaMarie12! All I know is that there was a bag (maybe two?) that they refused to eat and the food looked and or smelled a bit different, too. If I remember correctly (that's a big "if"!), @Paiger8's cats also decided they didn't like Primal turkey at around the same time.

The same thing happened with my cats in October, with the larger bag of FD turkey: both cats refused it and the food had an odd smell. I wonder if it was a bad batch, I should have contacted Primal. Since then, I only buy the small bags now of FD turkey, no problems so far.

That's interesting... the problem I had was back in the spring, I think, and I returned the (large) bag. It's rare that the cats are so hesitant to eat something!

One thing I've heard about Primal over the years - and I worked with Primal for about 8 months, is that there tends to be too much variation between batches. For the past three years I've used Primal, I had four bad batches: three frozen and one FD. Otherwise, no problem with the food. You may want to give the FD turkey another try; other than the MC, I don't see any other ingredient change.

Yes, I've also noticed that Primal does tend to vary a lot! It's funny that you mention the clay: I'd wondered at the time if that batch of turkey had too much of it. **That is, of course, purely speculation!** The thing is that the odd smell wasn't rotten, it was just sort of, hmm, odd. And neither cat wanted the food, not Edwina who always wants to eat, eat, eat, or Ireland, who will happily chew on shoelaces and pine nuts.
