So I adopted two brothers back in August, they were four months old and found out very quickly they had giardia. After treatment one became fine however the second I cannot get to have a solid poop. I have tried probiotics, pumpkin, slippery elm/supplement powders, prescription diet, metro, now they are on Earthborn Hollistic Ocean Variety (grain and gluten free and highly digestible) and nothing works. He's back to gas and liquid/mush. He will seem to get better with toothpaste like poop but then back to mush. I don't know what to do, I've spent over 1000.00 in vet bills and things to help and nothing works. I recently stopped the pumpkin and supplements as his brother, who was fine, was starting to become soft in poop as well. I just want him to feel better, please has anyone encountered anything like this? I will try anything, and yes I have had them tested for every parasite multiple times and both have comeback negative. I just want him to feel better.

If he's tested negative for everything, you might be dealing with a food allergy. There could be one or more things he can't tolerate, for example grains, chicken, fish or the like. An elimination diet with a unique protein and/or blood allergy testing could shed some light on the matter.

We had a cat with horrifically smelly, near-liquid poo once. And he would go near the litter box, but never inside it. Honestly, you'd think we kept a cow in the house! His mother, our first cat, was healthy and his two sisters who were perfectly fine.

The smelly, runny poo stopped when we had him neutered. Poof! Gone! And the vets had no idea why, but we were ever so thankful :-)

Now that your guy is a little older, he could be the right age for the procedure. I know it seems far-fetched, but you might try that, too.

Oh, your question about switching their food again - I've always heard that cats don't tolerate changes in diet well. And I've also heard that a lot of cats are allergic to fish. So, if you've been mixing up their food to find a cure for his poo problems, you may want to switch to a limited ingredient diet for a while. It's specifically designed for cats with sensitive digestive systems.

Good luck with your little fellow. I know what you're going through :-(

Thank god im not alone! Lol ive actually had them both neutered since they were 4 months. Ive had them on a prescription diet but that seemed to do nothing but since reading about fish (after i bought it of course) i think im going to switch to natures instinct turkey (i think that's the right brand) its a limited ingredient with no grain, no preservatives, no egg with turkey as the protein. No potato either i think. I also got ergonomic bowls to help them eat easier. Just feel bad for the little guy. They came to us with giardia (been cured) and the one has basically had diarrhea for his whole 8 months of life. However hes energetic and playful, eats and drinks fine, been gaining weight with a good coat, i just need to get his poor colon under control. We lost a six year cat in july due to undiagnosed kitty crohns thst caused kidney lymphoma and we had to put him down so im just getting super paranoid that i cant get this guys bowels under control.

Try him on duck, too, Marlowwebb. This is the only food I've ever heard described as hypoallergenic. If your fellow has food allergies, this could solve the problem for you.
