Tigger did amazing after his dental .... ate like a champ for days afterwards, mind u he was on an appetite stimulate for 5 days his last pain med tramadol was Thursday...so yesterday he ate about 4 small meals I was comfy with that he ate at 9 am today but has refused all meals and it's been 12 hrs ...I'm very worried ...backing up a bit before his dental his eating was slowing down as well....but I knew his teeth were bugging him he would try and eat and would cry out in pain...but now I'm wondering if there isn't a more serious under lying issue...his blood work showed a few things but the vet thought it wasn't anything to worry about cause nothing was high but a few things were actually low....I can pull out his blood work if anyone is interested ....it could just be mouth pain still ? But he is grooming himself and his mouth doesn't look swollen... any suggestions ?

Hi @Nance,

Has Tigger eaten anything today, (sunday)?

It does sound like the appetite stimulant and/or the pain meds helped him to initially eat after the dental work.

Can you try warming up the wet food, or giving him some chicken baby food (no onions, no garlic) and see if that gets Tigger interested in eating something.

Try any wet smelly canned food, or anything that you can think of, even if he eats cat treats, just to get him eating, again.

How many teeth did he have removed? And were they on only one side of the mouth?

Did the Vet also give Tigger any antibiotic for infection?

If Tigger allows it, try looking into his mouth, and especially around the gums/missing teeth, for any inflammation/bleeding, or redness.

Take a look at this TCS (the Cat Site) Article for more ideas about getting him to eat again.

I would definitely call the Vet back up, if it's been 24 hours with no eating.

He did eat a few times ...small amounts Sunday....And today Monday he ate almost his whole breakfast he hasn't done that in 2 weeks...so maybe it was a false alarm on my part ...But its a awful feeling when they eat so little or nothing at all....but for now he is holding his own....:)

Did he have teeth removed? Was there stomatitis?  If yes, its possible it didn't resolve and he may need the rest of his teeth removed.  If you can examine his gums, if they look red he has to go back to the vet.

Glad that Tigger started eating again.

I agree, it is very worrying when any cat stops eating, or does things that are out of the normal for them.

I hope he continues to eat well for you! That is worrying and frustrating when they don't eat.
