We are stuck in the house today....snow, freezing rain and a Winter Weather Advisory until 4:00 pm. I doubt we'll even bother going out.

So I took some pictures of the house, decorated for Christmas....

The kitchen

I think this was one of Banshee's favorite spots when she was alive. She loved to nap on the rocking chair with the throw and the pillows.

My father made the little gingerbread people on top of one of the spice cabinets. The dishes are part of the Winterberry pattern; the rest of them are in the China cabinet. We'll use them until the end of February or so and then I'll put everything away and get the Fiesta dishes back out. The red dishes are Fiesta in Scarlet; I keep them out during the holidays because they go so well together with the Winterberry dishes.

I had to take this picture because Ms. Pepe is napping on the back of the chair. She is our 20-year-old. Her brother, BooBoo, passed away back in September. Of our original RugCats, she's the only one left now. Her mom, aunts, and Boo are all at the Bridge.

That is Rick's secretary desk at the wall. He brought it home from his parents' basement. For his Christmas gift this year, I paid to have it re-finished. The Amish man did a gorgeous job on it. But the glass on the door is still the original glass; you can tell if you look at it closely. We wanted to keep it that way.

And despite my complaining about The Beast, she really does not have a bad life. She's napping on her beds. At night, Rick takes the Kong bed to the bedroom and she sleeps in the bedroom on her bed with us (and man, can that dog snore!). During the day, she naps on both of her beds.

Pictures of the tree. The tree topper is a cat; LaRussa (Carol) gave him to us many years ago and he's topped our living room Christmas tree ever since. His head brushes the ceiling, despite Rick trying to push him further down into the tree.

I also put a wreath in the bathroom and hung a snowman trivet on the wall, too.

We all have stockings and we hung them along the stair railing. I didn't show them; we can't put any garland around the railing (the cats will chew on it; believe me, we've tried).

Thanks for looking!

Would you please show your pictures? I'd love to see them.

Your home looks so festive and inviting!  I would include a photo or two but I'm not decorating this year because I lost all my decorations and ornaments in a move.  It's just me, anyway, so I can miss a year now and again.  However, all the Christmas photos here on TCS are allowing me to enjoy Christmas decorations vicariously, which is fun.

I was delighted to see the piece of furniture you call a secretary and I call a Larkin's desk.  I left mine behind when I last moved and regret it to this day - it was oak and was carved to resemble the book bags they had in the 1910s, when it was made.  I've never seen another one even remotely like it and lo and behold, there is one in your photo.  It's like seeing an old friend!  Getting it refinished for Rick was a very nice present.

Your place could be in a magazine.

Thank you so much, @Margd. The secretary's desk is what we've always called this piece. It had been in Rick parents' basement for decades. While I always thought it belonged to Rick's maternal grandfather, I found out that it was actually his paternal grandmother's desk. It was broken, the mirror was broken; from being in the basement for 40+ years, the finish was horrible. The drop-down desk board was broken and had to be replaced. Rcik really wanted this piece and so it was refinished. Rick's BIL steered him to an Amish man who works on furniture during his spare time. It took a long time for him to finish the piece, but it was well worth it. I'll take a picture of it after Christmas, so you can get a better look. (I'm thinking of taking my kitchen hutch up to him next spring to have it done over. They also do the old-fashioned type of re-caning and I have my great-grandmother's rocking chair, which is in dire need of re-caning.)

Thank you for looking at the pictures. I enjoy decorating for Christmas. We used to do so much more, but as we get older, we get less ambitious.

Your pictures are lovely and you have done a beautiful job with the tree.  Since the kids are grown with kids of their own and I am back in an apartment I don't decorate anymore.  I go to the kids different houses and enjoy their decorations.

Jackie looks so peaceful and contented.  I don't doubt for a minute that she does the screaming thing but you wouldn't believe it from that picture.

My DH collects antiques and he calls it a side-by-side, i.e. half secretary/half china cabinet.  How nice that it is a family piece with sentiment attached to it.

The house is lovely and looks so cozy and festive.  I especially like the pic of the beagle, aka the Beast, on his double bed.

Very beautiful and so cozy. Rick's secretary desk is gorgeous. I love old furniture. I would have kept it too. Nice job on the refinishing. The Amish are very talented craftsmen.

I'm still lusting after that refrigerator too.
"Lies. All lies I tell you. I have broken nothing. The dog did it." - Sophie

She is wearing a sailor collar. You can see a bit of it behind her head. The knot in the front is pretty much invisible because she's in full bloom right now and so fluffy. When she wakes me for breakfast I tell her, "Aye aye Captain".

Fun times.

I would trade my fridge for your beautiful Sophie in a hearbeat! I think that girl is gorgeous! Absolutely gorgeous!

We have a few antiques in the house, but nothing that Rick wanted as much as he wanted that desk and the rocking chair. He was thrilled to get it in the house. After Christmas, the furniture will get back to normal and it will be able to be seen better. It really is pretty and the man did a great job. We would highly recommend him (but know that it will take a while to get it done).

As for The Beast, she really doesn't have it that bad, despite what she may say. I do think that tail of hers wags from the time she wakes up in the morning until she goes to bed at night. You look at her and the tail starts. Even if she thinks you're looking at her, the tail starts. I go out into the kitchen and start slicing veggies for supper and her nose goes right into my butt....she wants me know that she's waiting (im)patiently for her share of whatever I'm slicing. She has developed a taste for slices of butternut squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, love green beans and adores asparagus. She does not have a bad life and, in a lot of ways, she has it better with us than she ever did with Rick's parents.

Thank you for looking at the pictures.

Thanks. She is my soul mate. I am her first mate.
She's even sassier with the collar on. Lily finds her amusing.

The Beast is one very lucky dog. Most family members would have had her rehomed a long time ago. You really do have more patience than most people do.

Bailey loves fruits and veggies too especially granny smith apples and raw broccoli. The broccoli gets the same reaction as bacon does from her. Jackie has a great life and I have no doubt that she has it better now.

I'm sure that Rick's Dad really appreciates all the time, effort, and patience you have given his girl- both of his girls really since the two of you are so good to his Mom also.

Angels mommy, your home looks so beautiful and peaceful. The ornaments on your tree are lovely - I love the green butterfly.   My favorite ornament is the fuzzy black couch ornament.  Those are good for year round displays.

Sammy has been a very good girl. Couldn't care less about the tree, I was surprised, but glad. It's just the two of us, so it is pretty peaceful. [emoji]128522[/emoji] I guess I'm making up for barely decorating last yr. Since Angel was going through chemo. I didn't want to stress him out.

Beautiful photos!! So warm and inviting. All of them!

I didn't decorate much this year. I don't get much company, so it's like.. what's the point. I did put my tree up, only because my nieces came to spend the night and I figured decorating it would kill 15 minutes of their time, lol.

I also put some toy soldiers blow molds outside on my porch for other people to enjoy. I did have a large Santa, and a large Snowman, but felt it was too big. gave them to my dad

Lovely tree @Angels mommy
!   And look at that big pile of presents.  Are any for Sammy?
Thanks! Lol, Yes, Sammy has one under there. The rest are all for my family, my parents, & my sister's family. There's also a couple of friends, & I have a couple from a friend, & a client. I am saving those to open on Christmas morning, so I actually have something to open, since dinner & gifts at my parents aren't until later in the afternoon. ;)

Beautiful pictures! And, oh my goodness, you have a Tacky White Tree! (And I mean that in the best way possible! I love TWTs!) Awesome!

I love your snowmen. And your candle. I'm going to do that with red, green, and gold balls. How pretty it is.

And Sammy! Queen of the house! Her first Christmas with you! Wonderful pictures!
