We're new to wheeling il and have 2 strays we've been feeding and providing shelter.

we notice one of the cats has an injured eye.  we want to TNR, but we work Mon thru Fri,  8am-6pm.   So trapping during the week doesn't work for our schedule (and cats are unpredictable so there's no way to schedule a day off from work)

any shelters or TNR services that have wkend hours?

thanks!

Where are you?

Observe, you can have the cat in the trap even a full 24 hours - perhaps more, but that smells of cruelty.

Look. When you bring home an new, shy cat, they often hid under a sofa even a full 48 hours. No eating, no drinking, no reliving themselves...  As long as you take the trap into somewhere nice and cozy, and have a blanket over the trap so its alike a nice hidey hole,  its OK.

If you feed the cat inside the trap for a few days, you may have more success trapping.  Tie the trap open so it doesn't spring shut.  Put the food at the back of the trap and cover the trap with a blanket.  Hold the blanket down with bricks or rocks so it doesn't blow around.

Once the cat gets used to going into the trap, schedule his appointment and set the trap to spring.  This will help ensure he gets trapped.  As Stefan said, covering the trap after the cat is in it will help calm him down.

You can keep the cat in the trap for a day or so before and after surgery.  A pee pad under it helps with clean up.

I googled :"NR near Wheeling IL" and got the link below.  They seem to be exactly what you're looking for.
