Thank you TT for solid suggestions yet again.  Your experience shows...you guys rock!  I'll try commencing with morning feed.

Tonight the little Prince has once again declared my chair his domain!  And thats ok...I said I'd be spoiling him....its all yours Bug.....anytime you want.

Seems His Majesty's strong little personality has finally returned. I can't convey how relieved I am.
Fabulous !  Why, in a few more days, he'll have you sleeping out in the garage, between the Honda and the Ducati

;)

You are welcomed ;)

You'll notice the change in the days to come and now he's slowly coming around and he's starting to re-own his stuffs.

As usual, stick to the routine. Just pay attention to his ears and eyes and tail. These body language tells you lots.

One step forward...two back

This morning Little Elvis not only rejected any play attempts, but rejected breakfast as well, opting to retreat to his safe sleepin' spot.  Well, excuse me, sir.

And within our interaction this morning...he saw fit to admonish me with some vocalization...major HISSING and a couple meows thrown in

(just to confuse me and keep me on my guard)   Bug always throwing a curve ball...keeping the upper hand.

I take it in stride, I know he's still majorly hormonal. More time.

I've found that the attitude I take when I interact with my hisser makes a difference.  Cats have senses we do not appreciate.  If I approach Chester with assurance and confidence (plus the appropriate level of subservience), he seems less likely to take offense.

It's like with kids - your level of confidence gives them reassurance.  You may be scared to death but you don't show them that.

I think to myself, "Listen, Bub, what's done is done.  You're in your new home now, so we might as well make the best of it."

Square your shoulders and walk in with your head held high.  You've done an amazing job by this cat and he will come to appreciate it.

And always remember who's (really) in charge.

Yep - Ondine's got it right; always remember that the cat's in charge.

;)

Seriously, don't worry about little setbacks; your patience will reward you in the end, and The Bug will too.

@Ondine - I love your user name.  I don't know if it recalls the Henze / Ashton ballet, the Pugni / Perrot ballet or Bertrand's celebration of that woman on her balcony, contemplating the lake and the starry sky, but it's certainly evocative.

In the overall scheme of things, I fully recognize myself as a mere, insignificant grain of sand on His Highness' private, oceanfront beach.

He'll always have benefit of the doubt, every opportunity, health, warmth, great food, never in need again, attention and affection.......from his human servant.......

AS LONG AS HE STAYS IN LINE  (and doesn't miss the box too often, dammit)    : )

Thank you!  It was my mother's name.  She never used it though - called herself "Pat."   I love it and all the myths associated with it.

This looks like his character. You need just to be one level up from him and you can display the same character as he so to let him knows who the real boss is but at the same time respect him for he is still the king.

When he hisses, just use a stern voice and say 'No hissing or say HEY!' And whenever he's quiet or meow, say sweetly to him 'Good Boy!'

As for eating, as long as he's eating normally except that he might skip a meal in a day, it's ok. Now he knows that there is regular feeding so he don't have to hunt and he is more confident now.

Here's hoping that you and the Family are hunkered down at home for the duration.  Port Jefferson Station is reporting over a foot of snow in your neighbourhood at this point.

Oh my gosh!  I will have to get one.  I love day lilies!
Bob Schwartz' business is called, "Rainbow Daylily Garden," in East Hampton, NY.  He's easy to find on the net, but winters in Mexico, so a reply might not be forthcoming until early Spring.

I know him well, and have for some decades - and do feel free to call me, "Joe."  If any forum on the whole of the internet ever deserved to have its members - as warm and caring as they all are here - call one another by their given names, it's this one.

Have you and Bugs celebrated National Pizza Day, or is the snow simply too deep for such larks?

just following standard internet protocol...respecting anonymity

In this storm today, I'm not going out for...getting a delivery would prove difficult at best.....result....no pizza today.  We'll compensate over the weekend.

Re: Mr Schwartz .... I'll make it a point to ride out, stop in and visit his business in the spring. I tried to email today for pricing, but the website listed address bounced back.

Do so if you have the chance; he's a thoroughly charming and curmudgeonly at once.  Bob was the Director of The Ed Sullivan Show for many years, and he's a brilliantly funny fellow.  His most recent book - How Did That Old Fart Get into My Mirror? - is positively hilarious.

Regarding internet protocol: whee don' need no steenkin' internet protocol.  Well, we do need Internet Protocol to send data from one computer to another, of course; without TCP/IP, we couldn't - oh for Heaven's sake - you know what I mean.

Here's hoping that the weather has finally passed there on Long Island, and that when next we see you, there'll be a happy report on The Bug.

Stay safe.

One forward, two back....Bug regressed the last couple days. I thought he had finally "come out" as I posted a few days ago.  Dammit.  I'm wondering if the rapid change to boring, indoor life has depressed him. His sleeping is still excessive. Engaging attempts (wand toy), quietly talking, laying on the floor trying to entice him out of his safe spot....go unrewarded.

More time, I know....but what would Jackson do NOW?

Snow passed, a good foot here....wet, heavy stuff. between shoveling and snowblower, i'm caught up with my cardio. WAY caught up.

Jackson would record a well-rehearsed conversation with The Bug's caretaker, tell you to ignore The Bug until feeding time, and hope that he approached you.  Then Jackson would collect his fifty grand for a thirty minute show and ride off into the sunset.

Seriously, sometimes a little step back is good for both of you.  Same goes for snow-blowing, you know.
