My Lily girl purred til the end yesterday, 12,/12/16.
They say a cats love is earned. She wasn't your conforming , cuddly, needy cat. She did her thing, was elusive and snobby. Given space, respect and love, she became my "go to girl " for love and quiet support.she was not happy when I brought a dog home, but she was a princess and got preferential treatment over him.
When I was in the hospital for 4 days , she hid under the bed, coming out for no one. Once home, she purred and slept near my wound. 18 years , is a huge chunk of my life with someone. She was with me longer than my marriage!!
I weep for the end of it all, I weep for the loss of her, I weep cuz change is hard, I weep cuz she was a light in my life. Lily 6/6/1998- 12/12/16

Thank you for posting your beautiful tribute in the Crossing the Bridge forum, your Lily deserves no less. Although I have already given you my condolences yesterday when you announced Lily's passing, there can never be too much comfort  received in a time like this. My Chrissy was a 'princess' too, she was crabby and sounds much like your Lily, so it is even harder to lose them when we had to earn their love and knew we were the only one they accepted to bestow their affection, of course when they were ready to. 18 years is a huge part of your life, she will be so dearly missed .

The holidays will always bring a pang of pain now, my Chrissy died on the 8th 4 years ago. The Christmas lights remind me of her bright eyes and the bustling season of her sassy ways.

I weep with you, grief shared can become a lighter burden, I'll pray for you both....... RIP little Lily, you have earned your wings to soar above earthly pain and grief.  I pray my Chrissy has welcomed you to the Rainbow Bridge, where together you can keep those boys in line, everyone is a princess in heaven!

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your Lily. Thank you for sharing her and the story of your life with her with us. You are right, 18 years is an incredibly long time for a relationship and you were blessed to have that time with your princess. You and Lily had such a special relationship where you each were so intune with each other. You knew what she needed and she knew your needs. Lily may have left you on this physical earth for her new journey across the Rainbow Bridge but she has not left your heart and soul and she never will. She will always be a part of you. Take comfort in the knowledge that your Lily is running free over the Rainbow Bridge.

I am so very sorry.  I still feel that pain freshly from the passing of our Fuzz, and my old doggie Max, who was 23 when he passed.  He saw many of my life changes.  My heart aches for you. RIP Lily!

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Your description of Lily reminds me so much of my Sandra, who passed away last summer just 3 months shy of her 18th birthday.  She was also a snobby princess.

It hurts so much to lose them after so many years together.  They are there with us through the good times and the bad.  They bring us so much comfort.  Time eases the pain and eventually memories of Lily will bring a smile to your face.  She will always have a special place in your heart.

Rest in peace princess Lily

I can't tell you how sorry I am for your loss, June.  Your post touched me.

"I weep for the end of it all, I weep for the loss of her, I weep cuz change is hard, I weep cuz she was a light in my life"

Such beautiful words.

You and your Lily were both incredibly fortunate to have each other for the time you did.

Thank you for all your words of wisdom and sympathies. Some people don't understand the loss or the grief that comes with it. "Oh your cat ?" ,"she was just a cat" , or many other ignorant statements. I grieve a grief not may understand. I think when she was dying that's why I sought this group. Just to validate my feelings. Because society can be cold. You helped me do much.

I'm so sorry that you lost your girl. She sounds like she was a really special cat. It's such a wrench to lose that special one.

I know it seems impossible now, but it will get easier with time. You had such a long life together and so many beautiful memories. I hope you can find some comfort remembering the good times with Lily.

I am truly sorry for your loss of your sweet Lily. My heart breaks for the pain you are feeling. You had 18 wonderful, loving years together. She was your family and you will surely miss her. Just know that you gave her a warm, loving home. She always felt safe and happy. She knew how much she was loved and loved you just as much. I wish I had some magic words to say to comfort you. I only hope that one day you can think of your Lily with more smiles than tears. Yes, we all understand on this site and are crying right along with you for your loss. We are here for you whenever you need.
RIP Sweet Lily!
You were so loved and will be missed so much!
Please comfort your loved one, who is hurting so much over your loss!

Sorry for your loss, even though you had a long time with her it still is such heartbreak when they move on, but you two obviously had a special bond that will never be broken.

I hope that your heart starts to heal, and please remember that she is healthy and happy again where she is now.

God Bless......
