Hi everyone!

I am coming to the forum today to ask for help. I've been a part of this community for the past few years, and have shared my problems. I posted a thread mentioning my mom having cancer.

She passed away on October from pancreatic cancer. It hit us by surprise, my mom was always a strong woman, even with all her health issues. I was my moms carer since we found out she had cancer. I also spent the past four years or so, caring for my niece. My brother didnt want her in daycare, and so i got a little money caring for her. By the time i started taking care of her, she had started walking at 2 years old, and couldnt talk. She was a very angry little girl, and would spend all day in her room watching TV. I did my best, and shes now a very happy 6 year old, everyone says that shes one of the happiest kids they know.

Because of all this, i did not have work experience, i got by with my moms, and my brothers help. Despite everything, i am grateful for my mistakes in life, because of my mistakes i got to spend my moms last few months with her. My brother always tells me i wasted my youth (im 30), and for so long, i felt so lost, but i finally realized that caring for my niece and my mom, were two things i was meant to do,  I am grateful that in whatever way i could, i was able to be there for them.

Now that i dont have my mom, or niece to look after (shes 6, and started school last year), i am volunteering to get to be eligible for a job thats available on march of next year. My sister works for World Relief, i started volunteering, because being at home was too painful. However, her boss offered me a job.
Unfortunately, the job isnt available until March of next year, when the lady leaves as a missionary. So for now, i am volunteering during the day, and get home by 3pm, to watch my niece for 3 hours after school. She will be put in after care with her school, once im working.

Until then i depend on family for food, gas, car insurance, and shelter. my mom and i got our 2 cats used to eating home made food. Theyve been eating this way for 2 years and it has helped their digestion issues, especially my one cat that gets a lot of hairballs. I dont just have my two cats to look after, but also my moms outdoor cat that she loved.

I know that they are my responsibility, and i understand it is not anyone elses problem but my own. I am going every single weekday and training to get a good job to move forward in my life, For myself, my cats, and to make my mom proud. But i am struggling right now, and am a burden to my loved ones. Any help would be appreciated.

So far i had supplies for my cats, but i am about to run out. Im coming to the forum today to ask for help. My mom always taught me to never ask strangers for anything, but i am desperate. I have these 3 cats to think of, and i am already asking too much from my family.

My sister has been stuck having to help me mentally hold myself together, and has her own battles. Her husband was diagnosed with cancer at the same time that our mom was. He was lucky enough to be diagnosed with stage 1 cancer, instead of stage 4 like our mom.

I also take care of my moms outdoor cat. She fell in love with Tito and made sure to feed him wet food every single day. I have taken this up for her and make sure he gets wet food everyday. I still remember this one day, that my mom was having breakthrough pain, and she still asked me if her cat had gotten his wet food.

Monthly cost

litter 16$ for a 40 lb box

food for my two cats

once a year 140$ for ustew powder, i just ran out.

Meat is chicken and beef 40-60$ per month.

Tito 18$ for wet food

snacks  25$ a month

I know its a lot to ask, but any small amount of help i can receive  would be appreciated. i dont know how this works, so any advice would be appreciated.

I'm really sorry to hear that your mother passed away.  Mine also passed away from cancer so I can empathize with what you are going through.  I was only able to take care of her for her last two weeks and wish I'd had more  time, like you did.  You're right - even though it's an enormous amount of work to be a caretaker, there is something very rewarding about it.  And it brings us closer to our loved one.

Right now I am unable to help, having overspent for the holidays but I should be able to help a little in January.

Congratulations on the new job.  It must be a very inspiring place to work.

I'm sorry about your mom, even with the time i had, i wished i had more time.
thank you for your kind words.

I am really enjoying being at World Relief, it helps me feel like i'm helping to give back to people. You see, my parents came here from cuba. they risked their lives on a boat out of desperation to have a better life for us. My two oldest siblings are cuban, and had to come from cuba on that boat. so much ugliness happened to them in cuba, and they werent safe their. i was lucky to be born here.

My mom always said this was her true home, and she considered herself an american in her heart. She had so much gratitude for this country.

so it makes me happy to help in a small way these families that just want better for themselves and their kids.
