My 9 y.o. otherwise healthy boy went to the vet for a vaccine update.  He got Rabies/Distemper vaccine and came home Friday night.  As usual, he was a little drowsy that night from the vaccine and stress.  He hadn't perked up all weekend.

Today I just knew something was wrong, so we went back to the vet.  Sure enough, he had a bad reaction to the vaccine.  He was running a 105 fever and the injection site was tender.  The vet gave him a steroid injection and an injection of Benadryl.  She said things would improve within a couple hours (by 6:30 pm).

He definitely looks and acts a little better, but he's not seeming normal yet.  He is eating, drinking, and going potty.  He goes back in for a re-check on Wednesday.

Has anyone had a pet with a similar reaction?  Should I be seeing more improvement by now?  Advice/encouragement appreciated.

Our last cat had a terrible reaction to his first year booster shots - vomiting, diarrhea and a fever within an hour. I ran him back to the vets' office and he got a shot of Benadryl and was okay by the second day. After that he got a shot of Benadryl before being vaccinated, got no combination vaccines, and had to stay at the vets' for at least an hour after his shots. It never happened again, but it was frightening.

:vibes::vibes::vibes: that yours is okay now.

I'm glad your boy is okay.  Good to know what to expect with vaccines in the future.

My boy is... okay?  Not himself yet, but better.  Re-check tomorrow, and I hope the doc feels he's improving.
