Hello,

My cat Bartholomew is 5 years old. For 6 months now he has had a bloody nose on and off with watery eyes and intense sneezing. He has sneezed all his life. I've taken him to the vet many times and done blood tests/exams and they have found nothing wrong. I recently tried a new vet and they think he's had a virus his whole life and now he has one on top of it that he can't fight off so they put him on antibiotics to help heal his secondary virus. It helped for a week or so but now his nose is bleeding again and now this grey/black/ bloody matter in peeking out his right nostril (he's only had issues with his right nostril). I wasn't sure if it was a foreign object or hardened snot so I tried touching it but its extremely sensitive and he won't let me near. Wondering if it looks more like inflammation of his nose or a tumor? They said no tumor but it definitely has that sort of look. Any knowledge would be great! Thank you!

Gosh, I'm really just bumping this iup for you because I honestly don't have any idea.  I don't know what a tumor looks like, but this certainly looks sore, that's for sure.  I can see why he won't let you near it.

The issue he's had all his life is probably Feline Herpes.  Is that what they said.  And now he may have an Upper Respiratory Infection?  Have I got it straight?

How are you treating him, aside from the antibiotic?  I'm wondering if there something in this thread that might be helpful?  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/267703/stubborn-herpes-infection-add-lactoferrin-in-addition-to-lysine

What a handsome kitty!!  I'm so sorry you're having all this problem with him, though.

He needs to see a cat-only vet if you have one in your area.  Ask the vet to run a culture & sensitivity test on his discharge to find out exactly what you're dealing with (viral or bacterial) and which medication will best treat it.  He may also need to have some kind of procedure done to see what's in his nose.

Hi, I read this and the exact same thing happens with my cat and she sneezes out a bloody booger every once and awhile. They said my cat had what mrsgreenjeans said but she still does it as the vet suggested might happen. They said other than her having gingivitis she is healthy. I'm going in spring to have a cleaning done on her teeth to see if that helps her nose perhaps. What did u find out about yours? I would really love to know as maybe it is the same thing. this is mama kitty the one with the nose problem

Still haven't found out anything. :( Vets are stumped. Only suggestion they have is to get a CAT scan which is way out of our price range.
