Okay. So, a week and a half ago, we bought a beautiful 7 month old female Persian kitten from an amazing breeder. They're a registered cattery and have amazing reviews and testimonials. We're head over heels in love with her. The breeder told me that she had noticed some of the male cats starting to "check her out," so if we had not picked her up that weekend, they were going to taker her to get spayed. They gave us the option, but we wanted to get her home, let her adjust, and then have her spayed with the vet we chose. There was no chance of her encountering any male cats in our home, she is our only pet.

BUT. She has been acting strange the last week. Meowing constantly. Grooming a lot. Following me around. Sleeping all the time. Hiding in weird places. Not covering her poop in the litter box. I thought it was just the adjustment period, but when I picked her up a few days ago I felt like she had gotten rounder. My husband thought I was being crazy, but came to me yesterday with the same suspicions.

I checked her nipples today after reading about "pinking" and here is what I found. They are a pink-coral color. Some are slightly darker than this, but this is the one I was able to get a photo of.

What do you think? If she is pregnant, do I contact the breeder? What will they do? We were already considering buying another Persian (or two) to be her companions, so I'd like to keep our choice of the kittens if she is in fact pregnant. I don't want to give her back or put her through an abortion. :( How do I approach this?

Thanks

I would really consider spaying her now. A 7 month old kitten really has no business carrying a litter and delivering. It could easily impact her health and size. Also, many Persians struggle to deliver naturally even when full grown.

At this phase of pregnancy, it is essentially a normal spay.

Before I made any decisions about anything, I'd take her to the vet to find out if she is pregnant. If she is, the vet should be able to tell you approximately how far along she is and what the options are and what would be best for her.

How about a picture of her?? I have 2 Persians myself. They are so awesome!!

I agree with @Kat0121  The best thing to do is get her checked over by a vet to find out if she really is pregnant or not. The meowing and following you around could be signs that she is in heat. If so your vet will be able to schedule a spay for her once this heat cycle has finished

Keep us posted. I'd love to see some pictures too. I have a male Persian called Forest.

Im thinking on some alternatives, which shold include contacting the breeder.  After all, if he didnt spay her as a youngster, I presume he planned to perhaps use her for breeding. But later on, by some reason, decidet to sell her instead as family pet.

Does he wish to get the pregnancy fullfilled, and perhaps issue full pedigrees for momma and children?  After all, they ARE purebred.  Even if he prob doesnt know for sure whom is the father.  But he can of course always make an educated guess, and nobody will know how sure he is...

Did you get out the registry certificates for her?  Now, for registering the kittens as purebred, you must have the mating certificate from the breeder, so you cant let them be delivered as oficially purebred on your own, neglecting the breeder...

Anyways, I think its good you let a vet check her out, you contact the breeder, and after that, you take your decision.

Medically speaking, there shouldnt be no problems with a spaying - possiblly including an abort, this early in the pregnancy.  Its in fact easier than spaying while in heat.

I'm shocked the breeder did not have her spayed before she was 6 months old, and I believe he knew she was likely pregnant. However, I would not contact him.

I agree that an ultrasound will tell you if she's actually pregnant and how far along, so you can decide what to do. We are hear to support you in whatever decision you make.

We would love to see a picture of her! [emoji]128571[/emoji]
