Wanted to get input on experience with robot vacuums with carpet etc? Our baby that went OTRB was way too scared to even consider one but one of our new babies eats anything and everything. I am very ill and husband cannot keep up with housework and life. Was thinking a robot vac could help reduce my anxiety and fears about eating off the floor /keeping the house better/ giving hubby less work/ and 1 less thing to get frustrated about. With holiday deals I want to keep an eye out for anything that can help us, esp. robot vacuums but they all are different from flooring types, stopping away from your cat versus chasing (we have 1 thats a little anxious but nothing like our boy was). Please let me know your thoughts and experiences of good/bad models, companies and item #. Some say for pet hair but what is your take? figure if i can find a couple good ones through the group then i can watch for any deals and would be happy to update when i see deals if desired!

I don't have personal experience with a robot vacuum but my daughter has one.  She has carpeted floors and it works beautifully.  Her two cats are not at all afraid of it.  In reading some of the threads about them, the lack of frightened kitty cats  seems to be fairly common.   Unfortunately I can't give advice on models but amazon reviews are generally a terrific resource when it comes to getting feedback on the questions you have.  You can even post a question under each model you're considering and amazon will send anyone who has bought one, an email asking them to answer you. I wish I could be more help but I noticed you hadn't gotten an answer yet so wanted to offer what little help I could.

Once you've decided, please let us know how it works.  I want to buy one of these myself so would be very interested.

I am on my second roomba, a 650 I believe but not sure. Anyway it's the most common model. My first one lasted several years, this one is going strong after 1 year. With 2 dogs and at least five cats in the house we have a lot of hair issues. This roomba was advertised as a pet version but it is no different from my first one. The pet hair gets wound up around various parts and has to be cleaned from brushes, wheels, and cogs. This is about a five minute job. I run my roomba daily and clean its bin every day, I clean the other parts maybe every three or four days.
It does help but doesn't take the place of occasional vacuuming. I have laminate floors, rugs, and tile. Sometimes it creates little piles of debris at the place where it crosses from smooth floor onto a rug.
Perhaps the biggest hindrance is that it gets stuck under things, the edge of the dishwasher, coffee tables, the couch. There are ways to prevent this by putting something in its way so that it doesn't go under the couch, or raising the coffee table by putting pads under its feet. Nothing I can do about the dishwasher except just free it and set it on its way again. Also it is supposed to dock itself but cannot find the dock even when it's right in front of it. I take it to its dock when I see the battery light turn yellow, or later in the day when I find it stuck somewhere.
The cats pretty much ignore it now, and I use it in the foster's room because it's not as loud as the vacuum.
