Hi,

Me and my partner adopted two 6 month old kittens on Monday and obviously they were very scared and hiding the first few days.

One of them, Errol, is now quite content around us and is out in the open a bit more now. The other, Oliver, was the shyer one but we haven't been able to locate him for about 24 hours now and we're starting to really worry.

We're certain he can't have got outside and have checked every room he had access to but there is no sign of him. The door to the outside is always closed off from them and he's so shy that I can't imagine him trying to go outside.

We left out plenty of food last night for the two of them (dry food and a bit of fish to try lure him out) and it was all gone this morning but we can't be certain that Errol didn't just eat it all. There was plenty of 'evidence' in their litter box tho.

I decided to buy a wi-fi camera to try get a sight of him overnight, but even so we're really worried about him. He never meowed before so I'm not sure if he would if he was stuck somewhere.

We're not else what to try other than breaking the house apart after this if we don't see him overnight :( Any tips? We've tried the food shaking and calling his name but nothing

Hello Purrseus, welcome to TCS :wavey:

Glad that you adopted Errol and Oliver. Shy kittens tend to hide. If you are sure that there's no way that Oliver got out of the house, then don't worry. He should be hiding in a safe place. They get into nooks and crannies as they are small and they can squeeze through to get in.
Best is that he must be approached slowly and quietly. Any sudden loud noise or movements will make him stay in longer and they can keep very still and you won't even notice that there are there.
If you think he's in one of the rooms, place some food in there and close the door so that Errol can't get to it and check later to see if the food is gone. If it's gone, it means that he's in there. If not, try another room. Best thing is not to spook him.
But, he could be wedged in between something and is stuck. So I suggest that not to tear up the place but try to look for him. Have you looked under the cupboards, inside of them, under the sofa, I mean he could be hiding anywhere.
My boy went missing for a few times when he was like 3 months old in the house and we really can't find him. We called n called for him but no reply. Once he was hiding in a place where we used cardboards to block up the area but he found a small hole and hid in there. He was spooked by the vacuum cleaner. The other time he was hiding in a chest. He went in from below and kept quiet and still. We did ransacked the house to look for him.
So if you are sure he did not get out of the house through the doors or windows, don't panic.

My 1yr old, when she was about 6 months, used to go missing for hours.
I eventually found a hole in the base underneath my bed. She clawed a small hole through the fabric in the matters base and would go hide in there when she was upset or scared.
Drove me crazy because I have a small apartment and she would vanish. Put his favourite food out. Leave him be and let him come you. He will call if he gets stuck or in trouble.

Hi there, thanks for the replies.

He keeps appearing on a night to eat, drink and cause mayhem, so we're very relieved.

He still is avoiding us as much as he can but hopefully a bit of patience will solve that

When my 1 year old was a kitten she went through a (expected) cheeky phase. As she didn't understand being scolded or me getting upset she used to freak out and go hide.
No matter where she hid or how upset she was long piece of white ribbon/fabric with a couple of knots at the end always, and I mean always, brought her out.
