Hello all,

My wife and I have a 5 mnth old kitten we got at 9 weeks. We named her Bella, She seems to be a very normal kitten except for this: 2 times now within a week she acted like she was scared, hissing, arched back, puffy tail and all. the first time was around 2am and we thought it was our other cat. But after seeing it happen in front of me this time I know now its her. Her eyes seem to not know who we are, where she is. this time we were upstairs and she had come running in the bathroom where me and Felix were. (our other cat) she immediately stopped, arched, hissed and growling at Felix, then at me. moments later I found her by the upstairs railing, not recognizing me, she started backing up towards the balusters, in between them and the look on her face when she went over the edge was scary. she had the look of nothing, no emotion, not knowing who I was or where she was. she fell around 12 feet then ran away to hide.

about 20 min later she seems ok. no problems at all.. I don't get it. it seems like she has kitten/cat dementia or ALS. I hope we can figure this out.

Thanks Ron/Rox

Hi Ron/Rox, when a cat is in pain or afraid it can react in the way you speak, it's called redirected aggression. The first thing I would do is take Bella to the vet to rule out anything medical, once that is ruled out it may take some detective work to find out what is making her react this way.
