Hello, Happy Saturday.

How do you keep in touch with friends and family? Do you call, send them letters or e-mails or are you lucky enough to see them face to face?

I live miles away from all of my relatives. My immediate family all live in different continents to each other so I only see them face to face every few years. I still send letters several times a year. I like taking time over a letter and maybe sending a few little gifts in the package too. I send e-mails sometimes, but my e-mails always seem to be quite short and the replies I get have that "dashed off" feel to them as well. My favourite way to stay in touch is with Skype. It's nice to be able to see the face of the people you're talking to. I don't do Facebook or Twitter or anything else like that, so it's either Skype or snail-mail for me.

How about you?

Telephone for my daughter, grandson, and mother who live 70 miles away. We see them fairly often as we go to the big building center there about once a week, less in the winter. Family gatherings in the evenings are out now, we go earlier to avoid the MANY deer on the highway, and at this time of year, snow storms. Our night vision hasn't been what it was, and slamming on the brakes for deer every 20 miles or so isn't fun. Although it keeps our heart rate up! I E-mail my brother and sister, she lives in Denver, about 300 miles away, we see her about 3 times a year. I am the opposite in my E-mails, they are longer than my phone calls, because I have never been a phone person.  I have never been interested in EVERYTHING a person is doing in their life, so no Facebook for me either, that is like a year long Christmas 'form' letter to me, I can do without avery bit of information in another's life, I've got my own life to live.

FB for my niece and nephew, most of my friends. I like seeing what's going on, although why somebody will announce to the world that they're off to Disney for a week is beyond me. Nothing like saying, "Hey! We're out of town! Come rob us blind!" And people do that! I would never post a bunch of pictures of my kids either and it blows my mind that people do that, too. I am so none-techie, it's not funny, I guess. (I may talk about the grands even here on the boards, but I will never post pictures of them; I think our son would blow a gasket.)

A couple of my closest friends and I still chat on the phone. One of my GFs who lives out of state and I can talk for hours (hours!) and we've been known to blow my cell phone battery right out of the water at times (if I know I'm going to be calling her, I make sure my phone is fully charged). She doesn't have a cell phone, but she does use Verizon, and I have unlimited minutes, so it works out. Unless my phone gets too hot to handle, which does happen sometimes. (One of my older friends and I used to work on graphics together; we would take these graphics classes together and work on our home work at the same time. Hours and hours on the phone together, trying new techniques and emailing stuff back and forth. I loved it and we had a great time. Not so great on phone batteries though.)

I text with everybody else. I like texting....I can answer when I can (unless I forget) and it's no big deal.

I forget to email people back, I forget to PM people back. I don't do it on purpose; I honestly forget.

I keep in touch by telephone. I absolutely despise text messages. I am a private person and do not go there with social media like Facebook. I want to start writing more notes and letters and sending them. The art of mail is just about a thing of the past. But so many times, I have gone to my mailbox and received a handwritten note that was so sweet it brought the tears. Just that might just be my New Years resolution to drop a note that I wrote myself in the mail to those I love.

Telephone, email, Skype when Drew is somewhere really interesting, like Greece, and text.  I only text Drew, and that's because he doesn't check his voicemail often, but the texts he gets right away.

For the older generation (A.K.A my Grandmama and great Aunts) is via phone or cards.

For my other aunts and uncles, via email.

Text and Facebook when it is work or dance related, a la coworkers and boss.

Friends and cousins through Facebook.

(lol talk about chronological in time...)

My family is pretty much far away from each other, placed in Scandanavia/Finland, France, UK, Chile, Dubai and other provinces in Canada.

Text and phone my daughters every day, fortunately we have a good relationship.  E-mail my sister a few times a week since she lives several states away and phone once every 3-4 wks.  As for most friends I text and see them face-to-face, out of town friends usually e-mail.  I still like to write thank you notes but hardly ever write letters anymore.  I used to like to write them back in the day.

I know what you mean about Facebook. I don't use it at all, it seems like an open invitation for stalkers, cyberbullies and all those people you're trying to avoid to turn your life into a nightmare.

I find text messages take up so much time. I'm one of those people who has to make sure the spelling and grammar is correct, it's far quicker just to call and say what I want. I always find it hard to say what I want when I'm only allowed to type a certain amount of letters. And then I spend ages agonising about the perfect emoji to go with my message!

Does anyone else spend longer looking for the right emoji than they do actually writing the message?

Not here. I say what I have to say and hit Send.
Unless it's Rick, then I might include an emoji that (to me) means, "Really? REALLY?" Funny thing is the very first time I sent that emoji, he knew exactly what I was saying!

My SIL would rather call me because it takes her so long to type something out and she's always flabbergasted when I can write this long paragraph so quickly. But I would just much rather text. And a lot of times when she calls me, I Dismiss or Ignore her call and let it go to voice mail and then answer her later....via text. It's just so much easier.

I do not like the phone at all. Emails I absolutely love. Can't get enough of them. So that's my communication method of choice. If I had a smart phone, which is something I will never get, I would probably text. I have a cheap flip top cell phone, but texting on that is for the birds. I write thank you notes without fail, but no letters these days. Facebook, etc. I do not do.
