Hello all,
My name is Travis. I'm going to try to keep this short so I don't bore anyone. My senior cat, Simba (rank-Senior Supervisor) causes a near panic situation several times a day when he has a 'bowel movement'. Earlier in the year, I figured I would mix up their menu choices and give him and the other cat (9 year old Mane coon) some wet food-they had dry food for years before that. Well, they love it, beg for it, and prefer it over the dry. They still eat some dry food though.
Anyway, I've described the situation to the Vet, whom I trust, he's been the family vet for 30+ years. In fact, he said the wet food is good for older cats. I'm not going to blow my own horn so to speak, but I've been around the world in several different capacities and it's without a doubt the worst 'non lethal natural' smell that I've ever been around. I have a fan set up next to the box. After he goes, I hold my breath, turn the fan on, open the back door (the fan blows over the box that way), and just get away. I have a friend that has passed out at bars more than once and had silly things done to him without waking up. He was here one day, passed out and the odor woke him out of a drunken stupor. The 'poo' is about the consistency of yogurt I think. Light brown color.
Is this 'normal'? What should I do? Also, he weighs about 14.5 lbs. He used to be a few more when he was younger. But he easily out eats the younger Mane coon that weighs about 17 lbs. He does not put on weight. He just gorges himself, poops, sleeps, repeat. He's calm while doing this. The humans are in a bad deal.
Please help.
