Hey guys I am new to this forum. My cat who was year in a half old just passed away 2 days ago. It was a sudden death with no symptoms at all, he was fine one minute and then the next minute he was just gone. I googled sudden deaths in cats and I found out about HCM. I wish i would have known such a disease exit maybe I could of saved my beloved cats life. He was a sweet lovely boy who always love to adventure indoors, he would always love to cuddle up with me and nights and meet me at the door when I came home from work. He was very active and showed no signs of any sickness what so ever. I really wish I would of know this disease exit I could of taken him to a checkup just to be on the save side, but no hes gone I really hope he forgives me for not realized he had this disease. I hope he REST IN PEACE and I hope he knows that I would always love him and never forget out him.

I am so sorry for your loss.  He was a beautiful kitty.  But if your cat had HCM, there may have been little to be done.

I lost a 4 year old cat to HCM in April.  He was the healthiest cat ever before that.  Perfect ears, perfect kidneys, perfect everything.  My vet said he rarely sees cats that are that healthy.   He started breathing heavy one night, I took him to the emergency vets and four hours later they were recommending euthanasia.  My regular vet was a good vet, but he had failed to detect any abnormality.

I felt at fault.  That cat was my best friend.  But if a cat has HCM, there is not much to be done.  Sometimes their health crashes.  I have another cat with HCM, and I thought I might lose him.  His case was not as severe and he may make it for years.  I give him six pills a day for it.  But if a cat has a severe case of HCM, he may go at any time no matter what you do.

You loved him and gave him the best life you could while he was here.  Cherish those memories, though it may take a while to think of him without grief.

Yes thank you for helping with my greiving process it is very hard. Do you have any idea what else could of cause his sudden death like that outside of HCM. I didnt get a vet to check him out as an autoposy I just assume thats why he passed away.

There are a few other things that can cause sudden death, but you would probably have known.  Asthma, urinary tract blockage (very painful) or exposure to toxins can be causes.  Most likely it was a heart condition.  It was going to happen and there was nothing that could be done about it.

I understand the pain of losing a beloved  healthy cat.  It was helpful to my grief to post a thread in the "Crossing the Bridge" forum.

May God comfort you in this time.
