Lost

There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. First line of which eponymous novel?

"It’s official. Chemistry’s highest gatekeepers have accepted the newly proposed names for elements 113, 115, 117 and 118.

Please welcome to the periodic table: Nihonium, Moscovium, Tennessine and Oganesson."

No clue what the symbols are. I don't ever remember studying the periodic table at school in England. Did we call it something else?

The symbols are:  Nihonium = Nh   Moscovium = Mc   Tennessine = Ts   Organesson = Og

As far as google tells me, it's called the Periodic Table in England as well as the US.  My googling skills aren't always that effective, though.

'One Hundred Years of Solitude'
Yes, that's it.  It was written by Gabriel García Márquez.

Longest standing Olympic record is Bob Beamon, 1968, long jump, Mexico City, 8.9 meters. The world record has been beaten but not at the Olympics :D.

Ethiopian Abebe Bikila won the marathon gold medal at the 1960 Rome Olympics.  What was so unusual about his win?

Famous is relative since I have never heard of the band or any of its members. Care to enlighten us?

Just googled the band and will be checking them out on YouTube.  I love Irish bands.  Just a wild guess at the most famous member - Christy Moore?

Christy Moore, yes!. The band was formed in 1972 by Andy Irvine, it pretty much helped kick off the Celtic music revival.

Found on the net: The orange crop devastation began in 2005 when a bacterium that causes huanglongbing – better known as citrus greening or HLB disease – was found in southern Florida. Since then, the Asian citrus psyllid, a tiny flying insect which transmits the disease, has been blown across Florida by various hurricanes, which also brought down orange trees.

Wow, I had no idea. I heard that the Hawaiian bee has been placed on the endangered list.

What is the correct pronunciation of Dr. Seuss's name?
