We have currently 6 fosters, all from the same neglect/hoarding situation. The oldest estimated at 5 with scattered ages down to approximately 8 months. At first Taylor was very difficult, if we wanted to pet her it had to be done while she hid under the dresser. She had some medical issues with flea infestation, mites and worm. Rodent ulcers from flea allergy. Once she her mouth healed enough that she was eating regularly, she blossomed into an entirely different cat. She is the first to greet us, meows frequently looking for attention. The problem is, as she has gained confidence she is now chasing off the other cats and striking them, some nasty scratches. What is the best way to correct this behavior?

Separate her from the others then gradually bring her back into the mix. She's trying to claim you as "her person" and is striking out at the others because of this. Separating her behind a door where she can smell the others but not see them might help.

Argh! That was my gut reaction. I started to lock her in the bathroom and she threw such a screaming fit, that I was concerned over her stress level, so I let her out. I'm going to have to suck it up and try again. Just so I know, how much screaming is ok?

Thanks!

I meant putting her in a room with you like your bedroom or living room. She shouldn't be screaming or howling. Is she going to be a foster or a forever cat? If a foster, then she's probably going to have to be an only cat.

Oh she is a foster only. It was an emergency relinquishment. We have committed to fostering all 6 until they can be adopted, our house is already full. Hard though, as I love them all dearly! I was wondering about her need to be an only cat. Ill pass that on to our director, to update her file.

Untill then we will keep her in the front half of the house, most of the others love the bedroom closet, so that should work out well

Thank you for your advice!

Yes all in house are spayed/neutered. I'm wondering if extra play/stimulation would help. She is a very active busy body. She randomly runs and attacks furniture and things. We've tried getting her to play with us, but it's hit or miss.

Yes, play would help. My Baby does the same things. She'll even bring me her favorite toy and then get in my face meowing deeply and loudly so I'll play with her. I'd try different things like the stick toys (feathers, mice, etc) to entice her to play.
