I have recently adopted a in October and this is my first cat.  Mordecai is a wonderful cat but he has one huge problem that might cost him his home.  He constantly MEOWS!!!!! It is driving my family and me crazy.  My dog, who is 11 years old is starting to get anxiety problems.  I play with him everyday and spend as much time with him as I can.  He is just not happy and I don't know what to do!!!!! Help Please!!!!!

Hi Mordecai, Do you know anything about his history? And how old is he? I'm sure this can get better, don't give up yet!

How old is he? Is he neutered? If he is not, and if he meows a lot, he could have sense or smell a female cat in heat.
This could be the cause of his meowing.
Or he could meow out of boredom, hunger or for attention.

All I know is that he came into the shelter (animal control)  as a stray and he was neuter before he arrived at animal control. He is a flame-point Siamese and around a year old . I have tons of toys and climbing and scratching posts in the house.  We even put up a Christmas tree and he doesn't even climb it just bats a little at the ornaments at the bottom.  The one thing that he will play with is a laser light. He is obsessed with this light.  I tire him out with the light, he will chase the light  forever even up and down the stairs he will stop meowing for a little bit and than start right back up.  He will walk around the house meowing, meowing and meowing.  I think he wants attention for he is very people orientated but he doesn't want to sit on your lap and wants to be picked up.   He will let you but right after you pick him up or put him on your lap he jumps right back down.

He is very young, he may do a whole lot better with a play mate to take his need for attention of the humans a bit.

Siamese? They are very vocalized and can be loud. They talk non stop. As i mentioned earlier some of the things that make them meow. Since he's already neutered, we rule out that he smelled a female cat in heat.

I read about that, Siamese being vocal. He does have a different meows for different things like when he greets me, and  when he is hungry. But he also wonders around the house just meowing and I have no idea why.  We have a medium size ranch house with a basement and I keep the basement open and he has a litter box upstairs and downstairs.

Actually I have 4 siamese and they don't meow all the time at all. They're vocal when they want something or we're playing, but they don't go around the house meowing at all.

Something is stressing Mordecai out and we need to figure out what it is and calm him down. Another kitten would help greatly. Siamese are very social, mine all pile up to sleep and are always interacting.

While looking at reviews for the Sentry Calming Collar, I saw that some people said it helped with their cats' excessive meowing.

I got one for my kitty because she was terrified of our new cat due to a bad experience with another cat a few weeks ago (before that, she had always loved cats). I was able to get the two cats in the same room together yesterday. Not sure if it was the collar, but perhaps it's worth a try.

Getting another cat is not an option, my fiance only wants one cat. I was wondering about his laser light.  He is obsessed with the light. I can pick the light up and click in on and Mordecai will be in the next room or even downstairs meowing, he will hear the click and come running. I am wondering if I should put the light away for awhile.

I wouldn't stop the one thing that seems to give him some relieve from the stress he seems to be under. I would also look into why he is so uphappy and try to fix it. Sorry to hear he is denied a mate. Cats do so much better when not alone.
