Hello,

So we are planning our vacation for this month. We will be gone for 5 days, 4 nights (leaving Saturday morning and returning Wednesday afternoon). We have arranged for my sister to be a sitter for the kitty from Saturday until Tuesday morning. Then she has to leave for work. We then have a close friend coming in to check on the kitty Tuesday afternoon, make sure he has food and water (he knocks his bowl over and spills all the water out) and treats and we will be back around noon on Wednesday. My questions is will my kitty be okay if we leave for so long? Will he think we left him? What more can I do to make him feel comfy while we are gone? I have been stressing non-stop because I am afraid he will get depressed or something while we are gone for so long, he cried a lot when he took him from his litter mates when we first brought him home like 2 months ago. I have already gone over the instructions on how to take care of my kitty, he has no medical problems, hes just a bit skittish and she has my cell number in case she needs us. We have recently began letting him explore our backyard too and while he doesn't go far, sometimes, when he isn't ready to come back in, it can be a challenge to get him back. Usually shaking a bag of treats brings him right back. Should I advise my sister to let him outside while we are gone? My boyfriend is afraid if he is let out, he wont come back. I want things to be as normal as possible for him while we are gone. The kitty has never met my sister or close friend before so I am concerned he might hide or run if let out. We only let him out because he was has so much energy, even when we play with him, he just runs at full speed bursts, chasing or knocking stuff over, so he burns a lot of that off while outside, he doesn't sleep much during the day (maybe because he is young), he sleeps more with us at night.  I just need some advise and reassurance. He is my fur baby and we are so attached to him, he follows us around, always near us or sleep or playing in the same room we are in, hes super affectionate and loves attention. He has toys, we plan to get him more, he has a treat toy, where he can knock it around and treats pop out, plenty of different kinds of treats, all his favorite wet food and hard food. Am I worrying too much? What more can I do?

Since Kitty knows the sitter, things should be ok.  He won't be thrilled about it, and WILL miss you, but how terrible if he didn't!  One thing I would do is wear a tee shirt around the house for a couple of days, and leave that in his bed for him.

Funny this thread should be here at this time.  I too myself will be leaving tomorrow for a 3 day weekend.  I have a close friend who will come into my house several times a day to check on Katy.  Katy knows my friend very well so that helps a lot for me to have to leave her behind.  And yes, Katy did miss me too, but she did fine, and so will yours.   I know you feel guilty about leaving her behind, but just be thankful you have a responsible person to take care of her.  Go, have a good time!!  You will have many, many (more than usual) head bumps, leg weavings, cuddle requests, so believe me, you will enjoy the homecoming!!  I know I plan on having a good time!!  LOL   Enjoy!!!

I think the kitty will be okay but I'm such a worrier! He hasn't met the sitter yet so I know he might be a bit skittish, she loves cats s much as me so I think he'll be okay. Yes, I already can't wait to get back for all the cuddles :) enjoy your trip and have a good time yourself! Hopefully the fur babies won't be too mad when we get back lol

I sometimes leave a shirt out for my girls. I did it more when they were younger.  I wouldn't let him outside while you are gone.  But he will be fine. Go enjoy your vacation!

Thank you! So we did leave some clothing that we wear to bed every night for him. And our blankets. He was a little upset. He hid from us before we were leaving and even treats wouldn't get him out. I'm stressing a bit hoping he will be okay with the sitters..but I'll try to enjoy my vacation :)

You may get snubbed a little when you get home, but he WILL get over it!  HAVE FUN!
Sometimes they snub.  Others; especially when we've gotten home late at night and hurried to bed, Noodles has acted up by tearing around the house and occasionally meowing at the door to our bedroom. They've never slept with us because DH is allergic.  She only does it that one night. It's almost comical and I can usually sleep through her antics.
Most of the time they are happy after they've been fed & had some pets and scritches.

I'm betting that all will be normal within a very few hours of getting home.  Cats do NOT tend to hold grudges against people.  OTHER cats, now, is a different question!

Thank you all for the encouragement! We got back from our vacation yesterday night. Butters was so happy to see us! I thought he might still be a little sore at us for leaving, but as soon as we walked into the door, he seen us and immediately rolled on the floor to expose belly lol he was so excited to see mom and dad back! And we were equally excited to see him :catguy: thank you again! Our Butters did great!

I am so thrilled that it went so well!  And the fact that he was that outgoing and happy to see you means that he got along very well with his sitters.
