Hello everyone

We have a new kitty who has the weirdest pupils I've ever seen. You know how they're supposed to be that up and down shape (gosh, this is harder to describe than I thought it would be)... well, the edges of her pupils are not sharp, they're kinda jaggedy/rough/blurred?

She seems to be able to see okay, but it's very strange, and I'm wondering if she's okay.

Thanks,

~ Barb

well, as much as I have tried to capture this on my digital camera, it's just not working. I know this is lame, but I've drawn a picture using Paint Shop Pro, lol.

Here's sort of what I'm talking about. See how the edges are not sharp/defined? They're just kind of blurry.

Have you taken her to the vet to let the vet have a look? It could just be something genetic and harmless, but it is always a good idea for a professional to look in real life and advise you-

not yet, no. We just got her from my ex husband this weekend and I don't get paid until Friday. So, a vet visit is definitely coming soon. I was just hoping someone here had seen this before and could offer some input.

Thanks for the replies. : ))

Weird! Never seen that before. Does she seem like her eyesight is ok? Dangle some toys n stuff in front of her and watch her reactions closely. A vet will probably be able to tell you for sure.

Take him to a vet as soon as possible.

I've never seen anything like it myself. Let us know how it goes.

One of my inside kitties, Scampers, eye looked somewhat like your picture. I was so scared, because it was inside her eye. I took her to the vet and she did have an eye infection. He gave us ointment to put in her eye and it cleared up. SO Please take you kitty to the vet.

I agree with those suggesting she needs to be examined. The only time I've seen this was with my Mervat(RB) after a lengthy fight to clear up a corneal ulceration. We did finally clear up the infection and heal the ulcer, but she was left with reduced vision in that eye, and a ragged appearance along one vertical side of her pupil that reminds me of your drawing.

Our shelter kitty Arwyn had the same malady. She came home from the shelter with a URI caused by a feline herpes virus, which likely also resulted in corneal ulcers. The vet recently told me that the strange appearance of her left pupil was likely due to earlier eye infections. The treatment wasn't difficult but did take time - her eyes were dilated with one ointment (which tasted terrible to her -eyes discharge into the throat just like humans) and treated with a second antibiotic ointment.

She had such a difficult existence the first four months - wish sometimes she could tell me about it, but she surely is glad to be with us.

Thanks everyone - - payday is tomorrow, so we'll be seeing the vet on Saturday morning. Shots, check up, "what's going on with those eyes?" - - the whole shebang : ))

I'll let you know what I find out!
