I have a 1yr old who I found as an abandoned 2 month old kitten.
She kneads manically. This wasn't a problem last summer as she was small and claws weren't sharp and in winter I could wear a jumper to bed to limit the pain. But know she's older and she's murdering me in the shirts or singlets I wear to bed.
I keep her claws trimmed but she sharpens them on the screen doors and as early as the next day they're razor sharp and too short to trim. Help.

Thanks. Read it, it seems they either do or don't. Was hoping for a training technique. One said "I asked her to stop and she does" but no explanation. My girl does not speak English so asking her to probably won't work.

I find that some cats can be trained to not put their claws out when kneading, though if their claws are sharp sometimes the ends will poke you anyway. This is what I've done: when the cats kneads with claws out, say something like "ouch! or "gentle" (say the same thing every time so it becomes a cue) and gently touch their paws in a way that makes them pull their claws in (usually cupping the paw in your hand). Do it all softly and gently so the cat doesn't jump off your lap. If they continue kneading without using claws, tell the kitty how wonderful he/she is, kitties love that :tongue2:. If they keep kneading with claws out, keep interrupting, be very consistent. Most cats will get the point eventually.
