My 6 month old kitten Bagheera is peeing on my bed. we have two litter boxes side by side with pads under them. She uses the pads more than the boxes. She is also peeing on our bed. My boyfriend has a night time incontinence issue. Mostly she pees on his side but sometimes she pees on my side. I was wondering if anyone has had issues such as these and has any advice. We got her 2 months ago from the shelter. she is a snuggle bug and a joy to play with. We also use a spray urine enzyme chemical on the bed before my boyfriend gets tucked in.

My granddaughter recently corrected this issue with her shelter rescue.  She did three things and the combination corrected the issue: First, make sure that the litter box is located where the cat cannot see their feeding station.  Secondly, have the litter box located in as secluded spot as possible.  Lastly, have a regular schedule to scoop.  To take care of the cleaning, my granddaughter replaced the existing litter box with a self-cleaning one.  Some cats are afraid of the sound of a self-cleaning litter box, however, my granddaughter's cat loves that she has clean litter all of the time.

But you didn't say if your vet had ruled out a medical issue.  If you haven't Bagheera to the vet, I would do so ASAP.  She appears to favor soft surfaces, which may indicate that she has pain when she urinates.

Good luck and provide updates on Bagheera's progress.

Hi Bagheerasmommy, Ai, not very pleasant! Can you tell me how long she has been doing this? When did it start? Does she pee on top of the bed or while asleep under the duvet? Or do you have blankets on the bed? Does it happen every night? Does she have access to the bedroom in the daytime? What does it mean the incontinence of your boyfriend? Usually with kittens these issues can be fixed, don't worry! Just have to nip it as early as possible. There are many things you can do. I can suggest several when I know a bit more about the situation. Please fill us in.

Here's an article where experts talk about litter issues;

An article about litter box location.

How to solve litter box problems.

It turned out that in my cat's case the pellet litter we were using hurt her paws but by the time we realised the problem she'd gotten into the habit. We placed a tarpaulin on the bed to protect it, she didn't pee on it.  I've read here that someone used plastic bathmats with knobs on the bottom. You put them underside up and the cats don't like it.

Some people swear by cat attract, you can get it in jars or in litter (if you live in the US).

She has been doing this for the past couple of weeks. My boyfriend has to wear protection so as not to wet the bed and ruin our mattress. We live in a one bedroom apartment with our two boys. We are in the process of looking for a bigger place. So my boyfriend and I sleep in the living room. Our boys have the bedroom. The cat box is in the back corner of the living room and her food is in the kitchen. the past couple of days she has not peed on our bed. I don't know if its fluke or the urine enzyme spray is helping when we spray my boyfriend's pj pants and the quilt. I will be taking her into the vet to check for a uti. We use clumping sand Fresh Step arm and hammer litter. It helps a lot with the smell of the litter area. I clean the boxes twice a day. We are going to put a remminent piece of laminent flooring under her boxes to detour her from using weewee pads.

Its great that she's stopped peeing in the bed. Have you tried a non scented litter? Cats typically don't like it.

Good news!

I don't think this is a litter box issue though. My kitten peed on the bed a couple of times when he was about 5 months. The breeder said it's to do with the material against their tommy that feels like mom licking and so they let their pee go.

Sure enough when I put a rough woollen blanket over the duvet, he never did it again. Try it out?
