I have two kitties that are more like my dogs than cats 1 sleeps on my bed the other under. We have a pretty steady schedule up in the am downstairs for breakfast then outside for awhile open the cat door then they play for hour or so and back up to their spots In the bedroom unless I'm working in the yard then ther with me. 5:00dinner time then bedtime we all go upstairs together one on the bed one under. We do have company visiting when I don,'t close kitty door by dusk a neighbor cat and raccoon Cats have never been bothered when they have the visits. Well now the kitties won!t come in the room they both sit just outside and look in I have ran the vacuum thoroughly. One of them has jumped on my high furniture and meows like she's trying to tell me something. Any ideas , what do cats fear Shoul I be looking for a snake My 1 cat is a hunter if it was a rodent she would be right there. Any input would be appreciated They won't even come in the bedroom for their treats

Hi, are there windows looking out to your yard? If so, it's possible that they saw another cat or a raccoon, and are afraid to come in. Other than that, I don't know. Anything happened in this room between when they would go in and now? It could be something that would seems nothing to you, but important to them, like another animal allowed in for example.

SOMETHING changed and now the mystery has to be figured out. Something scared then so bad they changed their routine, which is horrible in a cat's life, because they hate change. Usually, a scary thing will eventually be overcome if it doesn't happen again. i have accidentally stepped on feral's tails and they forgive the pain after a while, so time is on your side. I would encourage them to enter the room again and see what they look at or do. Like was mentioned above, something scary like a predator or another cat could have been spotted outside, something could have fell over and scared them, or a loud noise happened somehow. My cats change their routine when company visits, if the strangers were in your bedroom, that could have made them leary, their safe place was invaded. If it's possible that another cat got in somehow and sprayed the bedroom, that may keep them out, you might want to invest in a black light flashlight to find any spots. (I purchased a black light bulb very cheaply and carried it around in a small lamp with the shade off or it could be put in a trouble light if you have one, an extension cord with a socket.)Time will help, I hope you can figure it out, keep us posted!

I wouldn't over think it. Cats can get spooked by simple stuff. Every once and a while something simple scares my one year old. Yesterday it was my feet...the feet she slept next to when she slept on my legs on the couch...everyday...for hours...all winter. So you know.
And if ones spooked over nothing usually the other one follows.
Or you know maybe the rooms haunted...don't cats sense death?

Thank you for your input everyone well I just brought my cat in the room and she is definitely afraid to be on the bed or floor jumps on the highest piece of furniture. Definitely in fear. The bed is getting flipped over today and look for a snake. She is my Alfa who is the one who usually investigate everything on the property with no fear shared her food with a baby raccoon that has now been reunited with his family chases or plays with squirrels chases the bats in the garage for hours. My bedroom door is now open all the time and I have made them beds right there so they can see what comes and goes in the room. They sit all day and watch and guard but won't go in. Will keep you updated. I think I will sleep in the spare room tonight and see if they will join me.

That's probably it then. House cats get on by moving around a lot. In the house in the yard and in the neighbourhood. They stick to patterns of movements. If one cat is in one area at one time them other cats may steer clear depending on the relationship the cats have. That's why cats fight sometimes, the breaking of those pattern. So a cat may think ok I'm in here between 12-2 then I walk next door for half an hour, I walk to the park down the street, I sit on the fence there for an hour then I'm inside at my front winow for 3 hours. If another cat rocks up to where that cats supposed to be, tension.
If you've lost a couple of cats maybe they're confused coz tut the time the dead cat is usually there and they're trying to reconcile.
Yeah and the ghost thing was a joke.
