Hi guys, I'm new here. :D

So, I was cleaning out the litterbox this morning, and my youngest decided that she wanted to hop in and play around in the fresh litter. She knows that that's where her toilet is, but for some reason, she likes to jump in and play around like it's the best toy ever. I realise she's a kitten, and they play with literally everything, but I also have a two year old, and he does this too. It's the funniest thing ever, and I've always wondered why they do this. Do any of yours do it too?

Sorry if there's already a post like this.

Yes, mine like to jump in the litter box as soon as I've cleaned it. I think the scraping around we do in cleaning triggers something in the cat's mind, and they have to go after it.

Yep.  Atticus and Thirteen are all over the box the minute they see the poop scoop, broom and dustpan in my hand.  They know what comes next.

We see a lot of that behavior at the shelter, particularly among kittens/juveniles. Some of them seem to be "helping" you scoop, while others look like they're making sure you did a good job. :lol3: There's a roughly 3-year-old feral that follows you from box to box, scratching in each one after you've finished scooping.

One of my 3 young cats, Pip, comes running whenever she hears me cleaning out their box. She doesn't really play in it but she certainly stands close by to make sure I do it right! And of course, then she immediately jumps in so she can be the first to use the cleaned box.

Yep! She rushes to the box every time I clean it. She's so curious and then she has to go in it again as soon as I clean it out.

My boy does that too which he stopped for some time and now he's back at it again. His box is translucent and he loves shadows. He'll try to catch the scoop and follow from outside the box as i scoop and while leveling the litter he'll jump in and tackle the scoop :lol3:
