My cat is 8 weeks pregnant. I sat her up a birthing box with her food dish right beside it. She seems very happy with the box and stays in there 90% of the time however when her food dish runs empty( I do try to keep it filled) instead of leading me to the dish , she runs to her old feeding spot. That wouldn't be such a problem if the old spot wasn't on top of the fridge (to protect it from the dog)and she was as agile as she was previously. I've recently watched her fall when trying to jump up on the fridge. When I take her off of the fridge and back to her new feeding area she will fight me the whole way. Will she eventually accept her new food area? Should I move her dish back to the top of the fridge? Help! I want to keep her happy but at the same time I want to keep her safe.

Perhaps keep a food dish in both places. Pregnant cats are hungry cats! She needs access to dry food 24/7, and wet meals daily as well. Also fresh water. Many pregnant cats continue jumping as usual. Is her nest in an area that the dog cannot get to?

It's in the closet of my room. I try to keep the door of my room shut to keep the dog out that does mean keeping her in the room though, so the only time she's running to the fridge is when she runs out of the room when the door is opened. I will place some dry food on the fridge for her tho. Thanks! I think she may have went into labor, however I'm not completely sure. A while ago she came up and sat on me for a few moments and I noticed when she got up that my shirt was a little wet, I haven't noticed anything since then though. She also seems to be breathing slightly heavily but she's also seems to be a very happy girl this morning and purring constantly. She has loved and preferred to sleep in her nest since the day I sat it up for her but this morning she wants to be on the bed. Ugh, I don't know she's sending me mixed signals. On one hand she seems happy and content and on the other she seems to be a little uncomfortable and breathing a little heavy. I guess time will tell. I do have another question though,is 59 days far enough along if she does end up having them today?

some do manage as early.  We had one breeder whom claimed hers female always delivered healthy kittens on day 58 - but that is unusual.

Lets hope she has precontractions - THIS is common.

but its wise to prepare for early borne, have goats milk / kmr, a needleless syringe, a scale nerby and handy.   IF they are premature but living, its probably wise to have it rather moisty in the room.   And of course, keep them warm

she looks as a Russian blue female could look when preg...  May we get better photos?

The average cat pregnancy is 65 days. It's possible the kittens might be okay at 59-60 days. Do you know exactly when she mated?

The heavy breathing and purring do sound like early labor, but as Stefan said, it may be pre-labor. The wet spot may be the normal clear discharge that comes a few days prior to labor and delivery. It could also be water breaking or leaking. Time will tell.

Just in case, having a can of powdered kitten formula and a 1 or 2 mL syringe on hand is best in case you need to supplement a preemie who is not strong enough to suckle yet. A heat source such as a heating pad set on low under the blanket, or rice sock microwaved, is also handy for kittens, especially when mom gets up.

Keep us posted! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I'll try to get some better photos of her, my phone sucks so she has to be in the right light to get a good photo. She's a tuxedo cat though, not sure of much more than that. I got her from a lady who said she found her outside her mom's house but she also mentioned she was "beat" by someone when I went to pick her up. She didn't elaborate on that I didn't press, who knows what the truth is. I don't know her genetic history one way are the other though:-( She seem small in size compared to most adult cats, so possibility mixed with one of the smaller breeds.

She got out October 8th, if my memory is correct. I could be slightly off though. I'll run to the store to look for those things as soon as I'm able:-)

You should also get a small scale so you can monitor the babies. A kitchen scale works well.

Can you keep mom inside until the kittens are weaned? We'd be happy to help you find a low cost spay clinic in your area, too.

I plan to get her spayed as soon as this litter is old enough, she's a indoor cat, she just got out once.

good.   so it was probably the usual precontractions.   Still, its wise to be prepared, so if you did bought the gears mentioned, it wont hurt.   You can always use the kmr or goats milk as extra supplement for her, if nothing else.

Just wanted to update everyone, my cat had two beautiful but lifeless babies on my bed sometime last night while I was sleeping. I didn't notice them at first, she kept trying to lead me to her box. She seemed fine at the time but no longer looked pregnant. After she fell asleep in the box , I went to make my bed and that's where I found them . My heart's broken, she became horribly depressed once she realized I removed them. I was asked to keep you updated, I'm this wasn't the update I wanted to give.

I am so very sorry for both you and your cat. Occasionally, kittens are stillborn for different reasons. It is always sad. Do you plan to spay her now?

That's good. Just keep her inside and away from any intact males in the meantime. Is she doing okay today?
