My male desexed 12 year old cat  has been having 5mg of overid a fortnight for 10 months, to calm his behaviour of spraying urine in the house and wanting to fight other cats and being over teritorial, when he is outside. Overid has solved all these problems, but he has gained a lot of weight. I started googleing and found this is a side effect of Ovarid and so is diabetes. What is an alternative to this drug. I am waiting for my Vet to call back with their views also.

He has had Endep and that didn't help and we have also use Feliway that didn't work.

It's more a hormonal problem. He thinks he is still a tom cat.

Did he have a retained testicle that didn't get removed? Otherwise usually they only need a short round of hormones to get them back on track. Have you tried taking him off the meds (with the vet's supervision of course) to see what happens? He may not need them anymore.

Has he been tested for adrenal problems? If he has a hormone problem, the underlying issue needs to be addressed, not just masked with lady hormones.

We have both his testicles in a jar, lol,  so its not that. He starts to misbehave  when the ovarid is wearing off, close to his next due dose. Two Vets have suggested this is the way to treat him  with the behavoural problems he has.

I'd test for adrenal problems.

If that doesn't pan out, well, I guess this is the only option :/. Any woman on hormonal birth control call tell you, yes, you'll probably gain weight. And I suppose the diabetes comes from the extra weight. But if that's the way it is, that's that I guess.
