My ragdoll's right eye is red. Just showed up tonight. No other symptoms as far as I can tell. Should I be worried?

Hi @Jenny Ya....I'm the type to always worry about anything related to my cat's eyes.

How old is your cat?

Could he have accidentally scratched it, by playing, knocking into something, etc?

Do you use litter that is 'low dust'?

Can you post a photo?

If the white area is extremely red, then yes, take him to your Vet, ASAP, since it may be an infection, or scratch.

Also the blood vessels inside the eye could have burst.

Here's a photo. She is 6 months old. I'm not sure if it's a physical injury. I use Precious Cat litter which is 99% dust free. Should I take her to the vet?

I would take her to the Vet.

Being so young, eye infections are quite common.

I'm glad that you noticed it.

You can compare this eye to the other eye, to see the difference, since conjuctivitis in cats usually only affects one eye.

There seems to be some discharge coming out of her eye, and down her nose, too.

The Vet will give you medicated eye drops, to quickly take care of it.

She is very beautiful.

My Bombay (black cat) has a red eye. I noticed it about a week ago and brought him to Banfield across the street from me. They kept him for awhile and I was to return to pick him up. The said he might have an upper respiratory infection. They gave me some ointment (neomycin and polymyxin b sulfates and dexamethasone ophthalmic usp) to put in the corner of his eye. They also gave me a prescription for eye drops (atropine). I looked up atropine online and it said that it was a dialator (sp?) medicine. I dropped off the prescription to CVS pharmacy and continued using the ointment. The eye was starting to look better and I could see his eye through the red. When CVS finally got me the prescription, I started using it on his eye. They wanted me to use these drops at least within 5 minutes of each other (the ointment). Once I started using the drops with the ointment, it got worse and turned red again. Now, I am only using the ointment and his eye is starting to show again. I am only going to use the ointment and not the drops. Why would he need a dialator for an eye infection?
